Anyone else here a Janet Evanovich fanatic? (I always pre order the books and they are delivered day of release. She is up to 18 now.) I just love her characters! I am going Sunday to see the movie of the very first Stephanie Plum book. So excited!!! :cheer1 :DN :DN :DN :cheer1

Mother and I are going next week. You'll have to tell me what you think. They'd better not mess up the good characters. Did I read Debbie Reynolds is Grandma Mazur? She'd better not be bad. And whoever is Morelli and Ranger better be good, too, or I'm gonna be mad. I generally like Katherine Heigl, so that oughtta be ok. I thought Benjamin Bratt would be a good Ranger. :hubbahubba:

I had a whole list of characters in my head for the last 18 books, and none of them are in the movie! :tapfoot2 I never get consulted.
Sherry Shepherd is Lulu. She better do as good a job as Queen Latifah did in my head. Her, grandma, and Stephanie are the best.
Reynolds is grandma, but I always saw her as Betty White. :))
Joe Pesci should have been Vinnie
Ranger & Morelli are definitely not cast right from my head and Stephanie? Heigel is nothing like her. She better be a good actress.
I will let you know what I think after I see the movie. ;)

My mother said Betty White, too, but she has a bit of a sweet image. HOWEVER, I think she could play a great Grandma Mazur. I don't know if you've ever seen "Big Trouble", but it's taken from a hilarious Dave Barry book. The casting was SUPERB. I mean, Every. Last. Character. was just perfect and fit with the book. They'd better do that well with this, or a lot of Evanovich fans are gonna be pissed. I think I saw a dumb-sounding actor who you've probably seen before...he's been in a few things...anyhoo, it looked like he might be Ranger. He'd better be damned good, or I predict a revolt. Who wants to see a crap movie about such awesome characters?

Exactly!
Betty White was sweet in the day, she is so much more sassy now! :))
I have not seen Big Trouble, nor read the book. Is it good?

Oh, dear Lord. Make sure you pee before you start reading..it is beyond funny. It's like the Evanovich books on steroids. The characters are HILARIOUS! He has another one - Risky Business, I think - that is nearly as good. He also has a new one but I've not heard anything about that one. Very much worth the read.

Okay I will put it in my cart for my next book shipment. :)

I have never read her books... but I love Katherine Heigel.
The trailer looks pretty good... adding to my Netflix queue.

The books are fall-down funny. Her characters are such...characters. :D I like Heigl, too. I think she's a total throwback to the glamour stars of the 50s (Grace kelly, Audrey Hepburn, et al), and yet she seems down-to-earth.

Absolutely!! Those are the only books I literally laugh out loud when reading. They are not permitted in the bed while husband is sleeping. hahahaha

Getting ready to go see the movie. I will report back.

It was okay. It was definitely cute and fast paced. A few very funny things, but not what I expected. (The books are hysterical, HYSTERICAL! ) Heigl can be cute and funny at times and others I was unsure of why she chose to use the expressions she did. Because I am vested in these characters (18 books and counting, woohoo) it did take a good part of the beginning of the movie to wrap my head around the casting. (and the bad accents) The good thing was that in the first one we only meet the characters briefly (besides Morelli who is a bigger part in the first book) so maybe if they do make another one I will like it more having already associated the actors with the characters.

Hmmm...I'll give you my review when I see it in a day or two. Sheesh. I swear, how do you goof up classic characters like those?!?!? And the accents are a MUST!!! It's New Jersey, for crying out loud! :sigh:

Two questions - How were Grandma Mazur and Morelli (lust)?

Grandma...eh, just okay, but she did not have many scenes. One of her scenes though was typical grandma! ;)
Morelli, my gf and I both thought the same thing, but he looks and acts exactly like Mel Gibson in his Lethal Weapon days! (His expression and his eyes) At least twice both of us said that during the movie. :)) I think I could be okay with him. I also think by the end of the movie Ranger was growing on me, but Bratt would have fit much better! I did not like Vinnie. DeVito or Pesci would have done a much better job! Actually I did not like Connie either. Shepherd was not too bad as Lulu, but she did not get much screen time and did not go get chicken! :))

I dunno...Bratt just popped into my head when I was mulling over who they could cast as Ranger. If it's the same guy I saw in the commercial (not sure who he was playing), I'm not thrilled. I'll let you know what I think of Morelli. :loweringmyexpectations:

LOL. I honestly think this would make an amazing tv series! Funny, love triangle, guns, bodies, perfect! :))

Yeah, but not by the big 3 network suits. Somebody like USA, say, could make it right. Yeah, I could do some casting on that one... :D
