Ok, another rant ... Lower the flags, really?

NJ will be lowering their flags to half staff tomorrow in honor of Whitney Houston. Are they kidding? It's a joke, right?

I get it ... she was a huge celebrity with an amazing talent and it is said that her life was cut so short but there is no way the flags should be lowered statewide for her. :rant

I know that technically it can be done based on flag code but I don't agree with this one. She was a big celebrity but not a special citizen and her death sure wasn't an honorable one.

BAD MOVE! WRONG MOVE!

It cheapens the significance. Now the Gov needs to order it for every fallen NJ soldier and cop from now on. I admit not knowing much about the protocol, but lowering the flag for public servants is a way (in my opinion) of giving them a little recognition for doing a job that does not often receive sufficent recognition or display of respect.

A celebrity gets their recognition during their lifetime...let the flag lowering be reserved for those who do not.

Again...WRONG MOVE!

That was my first thought while Christie was vigorously defending his decision.

Bad thought, but I was wondering, since the funeral was originally discussed in Atlanta, if Christie lobbied to have her brought to NJ.

Way wrong decision. Although I've not liked Christie for awhile, so this sort of fits with the pattern of things I've seen from him.

He has had the flag lowered for fallen NJ soldiers and cops.

Still wrong for Houston, though.

I like the Gov and that's good to know. I just hate to see politicians bow under pressure. You KNOW there had to be some... :Ninja

I agree it is WRONG! for soldiers, policemen, firemen, or public people absolutely! For celebrities, nope don't agree with it at all!

It's just another example of how so many in our country puts their love and loyalty to 'celebrities'. It's all fine and good that she had enough family, friends, and whoever that wanted to put on a big to-do at her funeral, but I always viewed a flag lowered at half mast as a symbol of those who died in the name of our country, whether it was a fallen member of law enforcement, a soldier who died in duty, or in an event like 9/11, a deliberate terrorist act against our country. IMO, just makes what has always to me been a symbol of service for our country seem less significant. Another area that appears to have been shadowed by politics.
