Oh We Love The Old One

The "Wizard of Oz" is on. The wicked witch's troops are marching around the castle doing their chant. The chant words have never been positively identified. I have always thought they were saying "Oh We Love The Old One".

What do you think they are chanting?

I'm going with "O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!."

The screenplay shows that the correct lyrics are "O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!."

There are many alleged lyrics to the "Winkie Chant" performed by the Witch's guards, including "All we own, we owe her", "Oh we love the old one", and "Oh we loathe the old one". However, the correct version, seen in the film's screenplay, is "O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!" and any other interpretations are simply the result of the listener's mind treating the chant as an audio ink blot.

The Winkies are the Witch's guards, with helmets, long coats, and spears. Their chant is difficult to decipher, and sounds like: "O--Ee--Yah! Eoh--Ah!", although some claim they are saying: "All we own, we owe."]

The most famous depiction of the Winkies is in The Wizard of Oz (1939 film) where they appear as the regimental army of the Wicked Witch of the West, marching in formation and chanting "Yo E Oh, Yo Ho" repeatedly.

It is the "Winkie Chant" performed by the Witch's guards. They include "All we own, we owe her"; "Oh we love the old one";... People hear many things.

Admittedly, I have always loved the Wizard of Oz.

Plus, it spawned the musical "Wicked", which is absolutely fantastic if anyone gets a chance t go see it.

Guard Daughter

They used music from Wicked in 11th grade Winterguard.

The Wizard of Oz is the first movie that ever made me cry. At the end when I thought Dorothy wasn't gonna get to go home and see her family, I boohooed. Mom and Dad kept asking why I was crying. LOL

My mom always hated it since she does not like Judy Garland’s voice... my husband just dislikes the movie.

I have missed out on watching it most of my life!!!!!!!! :rant

I remember when it came on TV once a year (around Easter if memory serves) and we all watched it on black and white TV's.
Then finally my grandfather got a color TV.
Who knew that the scenes in OZ were in color?
Also, who remembers that Oxydol, or was it Cheer, came with Wizard of OZ hand puppets in them?
