Oh my word...........I\'m normal! How did that happen?

Blazing Saddles

Pursuit Driver
I remember as a kid, I used to ride my bike without a helmet. I slapped my dog when he was disobedient. :tapfoot2 I was made to cut grass. :faint I got spanked by a belt. :Stick I had to eat what mom cooked. :wut I lied sometimes to stay out of trouble. :seesaw I was very mischievous. :rngfart Too smart for my britches (and mom and dad) :taunt shot squirrels with a bb gun :elmergun and drank from a hose. ;D And guess what? I'm normal. :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh :laugh Well, maybe.

What scale of normal are we using? :laugh

Whoa wait, you slapped your dog? :girlsaysno

:laugh and YES, but only if he/she was disobedient. :B_S You know, kind of like what a pack leader does "naturally".

BS, I use a lot of words to describe you, but NORMAL is not one of them... :neenerbutt

I catch myself thinking that also. My mother never locked up household cleaning items, never locked the medicine cabinet (not that there was anything in there that could be od'd), didn't have fences built around all the ponds and creeks on our farm, we drove farm equipment before we were into the double digits age wise and were allowed to use a gun before we were teenagers.

As someone said perhaps in another thread on the board, children are too coddled. We treated things with respect and responsibility.

I agree.

My friend's grandfather wrote a short story about his childhood and this subject. He points out that "back then" there were far fewer "idiots" in the world - due to survival of the fittest. :laugh

I used to keep the household cleaning items unlocked. Then the princess drank hand sanitizer... She was two at the time and I had to call poison control. But, I apparently didn't learn my lesson because a few months later, she tried to spray windex into her mouth because it was "blue and pretty." Daycare once had to call poison control because she drank hand soap.

I keep all of that stuff locked away now. Maybe I'm coddling her, but I'll take that over a trip to the ER any time.

P.S. I also keep guns locked up in the gun safe. I know, I'm sure some will think I'm being silly and overprotective because they're parents didn't keep guns locked up when they were kids, but I can live with that.

Kattie do you have children?

No I do not. We, unfortunately, were never blessed with little tax deductions.

:( I could not remember you mentioning any. Ours was a random act of God. I was not supposed to be able to get pregnant, did, and never ever again, even with treatment. Yea, he is special to us!

Many people tell me I'm overprotective. I prefer to look at it as my children's guardian angels not needing to work as hard! :whistle

Yep, I like to think that a little preventive maintenance now saves me a trip to the ER later... JMHO, of course.
