New speaker of the house

Will wait and see. I don't have faith in any politician so why should this guy be any different. On a side note the six that voted present unless there is a direct conflict of interest should be removed from the house. Regardless of which way you vote if you don't have the cajones to vote your belief you should not be in that position of power.

One of the lib writers on USA is going on about how this activity is showing how bad the GOP is that they can't get all their members into lockstep.

I show that as a good thing. I want my representative to use their own brain, not parrot the party line.

If we ever get a valid 3rd party that starts winning seats, this show will likely be repeated many times as the big two start wheeling and dealing with the 3rd to get their candidate in. maybe we will get lucky and it will take 133 votes like it did in 1855. :)

..... and remember how Nathaniel Banks worked out as speaker ??

Don't even get me started.

Time will tell. I'm not crazy about McCarthy, but there were worse choices as well.

I think the big question is how united the GOP? They don't have the numbers to lose many votes in their side of the isle.

One thing you gotta give Pelosi credit for is that she had a tight grip on her party. I'm not sure McCarthy will be so effective.

He will be like McConnell caving into the Dems too many times. The Republican Party is really screwed up even more screwed up now with McConnell and McCarthy in key leadership roles in Congress. Let's not forget Ronna McDaniel, the RNC chairwoman. Many Republicans no longer have confidence in her as she has been ineffective in uniting Republicans under a good political agenda, which has caused more division in the party. For crying out loud, she's MItt Romney's niece.

A list of some of what has been roughly negotiated to date. The devil, as always, is in the details. These are the concessions Kevin McCarthy made to get the votes. Do keep in mind that 90% of the GOP pundit-class fought against these things for the last few days. You would have had none of this if they got their way.

  1. As has been reported, it will only take a single congressperson, acting in what is known as a Jeffersonian Motion, to move to remove the Speaker if he or she goes back on their word or policy agenda.
  2. A “Church” style committee will be convened to look into the weaponization of the FBI and other government organizations (presumably the CIA, the subject of the original Church Committee) against the American people.
  3. Term limits will be put up for a vote.
  4. Bills presented to Congress will be single subject, not omnibus with all the attendant earmarks, and there will be a 72-hour minimum period to read them.
  5. The Texas Border Plan will be put before Congress. From The Hill: “The four-pronged plan aims to ‘Complete Physical Border Infrastructure,’ ‘Fix Border Enforcement Policies,’ ‘Enforce our Laws in the Interior’ and ‘Target Cartels & Criminal Organizations.'”
  6. COVID mandates will be ended as will all funding for them, including so-called “emergency funding.”
  7. Budget bills would stop the endless increases in the debt ceiling and hold the Senate accountable for the same.

It will be fun and interesting to see how congress weasels their way around every one of these concessions.

Congress must pass a joint resolution to have a proposed amendment go before the people through their legislatures. A vote in the House on term limits is nothing more than identifying which are for and which are against term limits, which in the long run means absolutely nothing. Most of them would probably vote present to avoid admitting they are against term limits.

We need to ignore anything from the left... rich of them to be worried about violent rhetoric... and the conspiracy theories are always proven valid in the end. Dog whistles to get their people to riot and hurt conservatives more...

From the article:
Republicans are handing the keys of oversight to the most extreme MAGA members of the Republican caucus who promote violent rhetoric and dangerous conspiracy theories," continued the White House spokesperson.
