@!#%@@ New Gas Cans

I hate these new gas cans where you have to turn that green "dial" to line up with the those strips on the base of the spout. They're dangerous. They need a release valve because the cans build up with vapor pressure. I was putting gas in my weed wacker.

Lucky for me I was wearing eye protection while putting gas in my weed wacker because the pressure buildup caused the gas to shoot back out of the small tank on the wacker. It sprayed back up in my face. Lucky for me, I had my eye protection on. A little of it got in the outside corner of my eye, but I flushed it out.

I think they want to kill us. What the heck was wrong with the old gas cans anyway? You popped open the vent, took the cap of the spout, and poured. No problems with that one.

They are ridiculous! They spill more gas than the prior ones

What??
You think you can just pour gas any old way?
Anarchist.

I am beginning to think that some of you should not be allowed to handle gas without an adult present.

I still have my grandfather's gas can.
Round, all metal, with an old Pepsi screw-on-cap on the spout.

I had to buy 3 new cans about a year ago. I'm fixing to take off the spouts and epoxy funnels to the top.

Maybe a neighbor will help you pour next time.
:D

There were some Youtube videos up, last year, that showed how to "hack" these new-fangled cans to break the stupid safety crap on them, along with putting in an old style vent. But.. they went and changed the can styles so that many of these garage hacks no longer work, not without more effort.

Most involved drilling your own vent holes and putting tire stems (sans valves) into the vent hole so it'd have a screw cap, the new cans don't even have the flat spot any longer to facilitate this.

As bad as it sounds I tend to keep an eye open for cans thrown in the trash, and I'm not above stopping and snagging one if I see it in someone's trash, as long as it's an older style.

The people who designed this thing and those who approved it to make it mandatory obviously don't use them.

I found news reports about how these gas cans are dangerous.

I hate to ask, but were there major issues with the cans that we had been using for years and years?
People forget how to flip the spout upside down and screw it back on?

This was a serious question.
What happened and why did we change?
It can't be because someone built a better mousetrap.
