Just wanted to inform everyone that the mister system I installed on my wrap around from porch has cut the ambient temp down by 20 degrees, making it quite comfortable for drinking and cigar toking.

Come install something like that on my deck!

I love, love, love those misters!! I have several and my misting fan. It does cool temps wayyy down. Yesterday in the shade with the misting fan going it was only 87 instead of 104.

Here's my misting fan, they make all kinds. Got two of them at Walmart several years ago when they marked them down to $40.00!!

We got our Misty Mate at Academy for around $25....we did have to go back and get a second one though because is was a little too short.

They use those at the ATL Zoo ...When they turned them on all the kids ran to stand in them... it was quite cute! :love

Luckily we went the week we had nice weather ... not too hot and lower humidity ... I sort of wondered if it would have felt as nice if the humidity were higher?

It does, the water acts like you're sweating the slightest breeze cools your body temperature. The amount of water it uses is minute. If you turn it on too high, it can blow the nozzles out. Don't ask me how I know this. :Ninja

They work best in lower humidity. The mist doesn't evaporate as readily in higher humidity, thus reducing the evaporative cooling effect (AKA: swamp cooling).

:thumbsup When I worked for a company in Phoenix ... I knew bunches of people who installed misters around their covered patios out by their pools . Phoenix air is dry – that is why I did not expect those to work too well in Atlanta where humidity can be in the 70's on up!

They also use swamp coolers to keep their houses cool ...except when it is monsoon season and the air is humid, then they turn on the Air conditioner. The swamp cooler uses water to cool the air... it cost very little compared to the Air Conditioner. Same concept as the misters... but again you can’t have humid air to start with, or there is little temperature difference.

This past weekend's heat and low humidity was quite similar to Phoenix ... :sick

I've used the fan often, even in humid weather. It still cools you a lot. Much cooler than just a fan or no air moving.

Or you could just go sit inside in the a/c :dunno

MamaHog only lets me inside at night so I must sit on the porch.
