My dinner tonight... Nomnom

I can't wait to eat tonight! I'm excited, and thought I'd share. It's been months since I have done a crock pot chicken, so we're having it tonight. The menu:

Organic free range chicken (whole) rubbed with my own recipe of spices (kosher salt, paprika, mustard, coriander, garlic powder, onion powder) and stuffed with garlic and onions.

Organic corn

Roasted red potatoes (chopped, tossed with melted butter and oregano and Lawry's the. Roasted until brown and crispy)

Made from scratch Non-GMO certified 100% whole wheat and honey dinner rolls. Using coconut oil in lieu of vegetable oil, and local honey (Elrod's).

I can't wait to stuff my fat face hole tonight. :cheer1

Sound like too much trouble to me, I'd never be able to catch the free range chicken. :whistle

(But that does sound delicious)

Sounds great!
I think I will have a burger from one of the few places to eat in this town.

:)) Thankfully, someone at Ingles did it for me!

I know y'all were dying to know! Dinner was so good, but my rolls were terrible. I mean, awful. In fact, if they aren't hard as a rock tomorrow ill be tossing them out for the birds. Lol

What happened to the rolls?
I don't know. I followed the directions exactly, but the dough was soupy, so I added about an extra 3/4 C of the flour. The directions said to form it into a ball to let it rise - that was not happening. So, I added the flour. The end result was super heavy, dense rolls. They were dry and just didnt have a good flavor. I've been afraid to try whole wheat (100%, not adding any white, 50/50) because everything I've read says its difficult to work with.

I'm really just mad that I wasted 1/4 C of my Elrod's honeys :))

Do you have experience with whole wheat? Any tips?

I only use whole wheat and have never run into soupy. You will get a denser roll, it does not rise as much. You can also buy white whole wheat and get about the same rise as white.
Was the recipe a whole wheat recipe? For a regular recipe to convert I usually start with 3/4 cup flour to each cup of white called for and add a little bit as needed. I can't figure the soupy. LOL

The end result was flat; while rising he second time, each dough ball just ran into each other and spread out. It was just a pan of hard, terrible tasting bread wanna be. Lol

I looked at the recipe, the only thing I can think of is you had bad yeast or maybe just did not realize you added to much water? :dunno Beats me..it looks like it should work.
