Wow. I keep typing a response, and then deleting it, so I guess I'm pretty much speechless. I guess we wait now for the rest of the fallout. I was told about the subpoenas recently, so I knew those would be coming.

The information about Mr. Turnbull is unbelievable. I don't know what will come from the rest of this story, but I'm certainly glad this entire thing came to light if for nothing more than an innocent man has had his name cleared. I can't imagine what he and his family have been through.
Ditto.

I'm incredibly disappointed in the Sheriff's office. They "took it on good faith" that someone was offering them credible evidence? Give me a freaking break. How incredibly embarrassing it must be to be one of those involved in this "case" now. To have a news reporter basically do your job for you. :faint

It's like we're back in Mayberry. How about we double check some evidence before arresting someone.

I have my doubts that there ever was an actual extortion attempt. We get one set of texts and no attempted meeting or exchange. Smells like bovine excrement to me.

Yea, you get a text about 1/2 mil, Vegas and pr escapades and you ask, "what do you want?". I think I'd be asking, "who the heck is this?"

Well, I do not know what is true or not anymore, but if he did any of the things listed he might think who is this, but he would also think what do you want if he did not want his wife to know. :dunno

One can't help but notice too that there was apparently no connection between the two men. The county was happy going to trial with no motive and no opportunity to gain access to the information used in the so called extortion attempt. Why they went forward with a prosecution even if they believed that he bought a card that wound up being used in the burner phone is beyond me.

:agreed It is perplexing because I have respect for some of the officers involved in this case. (some because I do not know all) I have a hard time believing they went forward with such flimsy evidence. :(

Sometimes you feel you have to do what your bosses tell you to do.

After seeing Dale Russell do a hatchet job on a past employer with lots of false accusations on unprovable claims, I do not trust him to get a dog bite story correct. He lost all creditability at that point and I do not trust what he says as being true.

Not saying that these thing did or did not happen in Paulding County, just saying that not all of what Dale Russell says is not always truthful!

Apparently he got this one right.
They dropped charges and apologized for arresting him.
