Midway Covenant Christian - YES, I\'m still looking....

LisaC

I'm here to spin the moral compass.
I went to an open house for Midway Covenant Christian School on Dallas Highway last night (the school is at Midway Pres. Church across from the Cobb Co. Police station). Someone on the other board highly recommended the school, I honestly never heard of the school before that - they aren't listed in the private school listings that I have. Anyone got any info on it - good or bad?

I know - I'm being neurotic about this, but I promise that we're making a decision at the end of this month so there's a light at the end of the tunnel.... :D

I have one really good friend whose 5 year old attends there. Their family loves the school and recommends it highly. (I have other friends who go there, as well, but we're not as close, so it never really comes up in discussion.) I have another really good friend who considered the school, but feels there are some doctrinal issues they are concerned about. (Her husband is one of our pastors.) That said, we are all part of the same "group" of friends, and have pretty much the same beliefs and values, so it's kind of funny that they feel differently.

I'm not sure why I didn't think of them, either, to tell you! (By the way, I'm having lunch with the first friend today. I'll try to remember to get some detailed info for you.)

Any information would be awesome - we're looking at the kindergarten program so I would love hear any more of her likes or dislikes about the school. Thanks!

I know - I'm being neurotic about this,

We're doing the same thing with 4yo for kindergarten next year. There are four excellent private schools in his area, but we'd really like to see him in one of two of them. We're applying to both, so we'll see. He doesn't live here, or the choices would be much greater.

My advice: check with the schools before you apply to more than one - unless the school is highly competitive and always has more apply than they have space for (like Mount Paran Christian School), apply only to your first choice and then wait and see what happens. Alot of these schools have application fees of $100 or more so we're only going to apply to the school we really want and will wait and see because the application fees are nonrefundable (even if they aren't accepted).

We're doing that. Oddly enough, the one we REALLY want him to go to has an app fee of $25. Very chi chi private school. The second choice is a Christian school, and their fee is $190. Geez Louise. So we've started with the first choice. ;)

Well....

the first friend I told you about LOVES (can't say enough good things about the school) Midway.

She said if you have ANY questions, feel free to call/text her (I can give you the number) and just tell her Denise sent you. ;)

The other friend of ours who had concerns was worried about the school teaching Calvinism, but the first friend assured both of us that the SCHOOL does not (although the church does have a Calvinist doctrine, being a Presbyterian church.)

By the way, this friend is very much like you....she "shopped" around for quite awhile. Her daughter is in her 2nd year, and her son will start pre-school this fall there.

HTH!

You are wonderful!! This is a big help. We had a parent as our tour guide last night and she reassured us of that too. The only "complaint" I've heard is that the dean of students can get on your nerves, but he's otherwise a great guy with a good Christian foundation. We're keeping them on the list, I've got 2 more school open houses to go to - North Cobb Christian and The Heiskell School - and then we're making a decision. Whew!

A friend's kids went to N. Cobb, and I think they liked them pretty well. That's been several years ago, though. Heard only good things about Heiskell.
