Please tell me that this is easy... because it is starting to seem a bit complicated.
So we went to the store in search of pectin and cheesecloth, going to make a bunch of jelly with the 5 pounds of homegrown Concord grapes in my refrigerator... I said.
To pectin or not to pectin... is apparently a controversial topic in the world of jelly. Better to have pectin and not need it, than to need pectin and not have it I always say.
So we grab some pectin and mount a search for cheesecloth with no less than 5 store employees in tow, they tell me that it must be all sold out... I find it myself anyway.
We arrive home to a mutant squirrel feasting on my last beautiful clusters left to ripen on the vine and rescue the last few.
It is almost 3 pm and I have finally eviscerated all of the grapes and the juice is now draining thru the elusive cheesecloth.
Some websites say I need to let the juice sit overnight to avoid crystallization... some don't.
Please tell me that making jelly is easy... is this really going to be a 2 day process ? ? ?
