I'll have to find the link, but I heard on the news this morning that a school system is giving student gift cards ranging from $10 to $25 to attend school, be on time, and stay out of trouble. :faint

Oh, by the way, federal funds and private donations are supporting this program.

Have we lost our collective minds? :BH

"We" haven't lost our minds, but "they" have. The same system that would pay a child to do what they are supposed to do in the first place and that their PARENTS are responsible for, still refuses to pay a student athlete a modest stipend for bringing millions into an institution.
 
I don't want a gift card for my child's behavior. We are not dog's and do not need treats fore every good deed.

How does this help prepare them for the real world. Where is my treat for doing the laundry,cooking, cleaning. taking a shower and everything else.

We should want to take pride and want respect from out peers...

This is ridiculous. I was just talking with a friend last night about how things were when I was younger. We went to school, did our assignments and got good grades...because that was what was expected of us. No excuses. Nobody had to pay us to be responsible for ourselves.
 
I think this entitlement generation needs their butts kicked, but it starts at home. How can you grow good children when many parents are enabling this bullcrap?
 
I have a better deterrent - when they skip school and cause trouble get a hold of their little behinds! It's cheaper and a heck of a lot more effective!!! :rant
 
Oh dear. You folks OBVIOUSLY do not understand. This school district has a 90% poverty rate. They don't have the same "opportunities" that the suburban kids have.

Why not? Flip flops from Goodwill work just as well on the backside of a child as those from Macy's.... I promise...

My mom uses the excuse for my nephew as to why he doesn't carry his weight. She says the live in a rural area. She says there are no jobs. So I get online and pull up over 25 jobs he is qualified to do and give them the info.

SHe made an excuse why she doesn't want him to have those jobs and how they need to be left to people with a family.

He is soon to be 18, never had a job and needs to learn to make his own living, but all he wants to do is sit in the basement and play video games where my mom says he isn't hurting nobody doing this. It PISSES ME OFF TO NOOOO END. He doesn't even have chores there. He knows when he comes to my house he is expected to clean up after him self, we all eat at the table together and he does have chores when he visits and does them.


I told her my DD is working, School plus some college classes, study groups, church, and still makes times to do a few things socially.

My DD pays for her car, insurance and her outings and thngs that she wants

My Nephew was given a 12,000 suv and pays for nothing. He has wrecked the heck out of this car but doesn't seem to care because he has no clue what a dollar is

My dad agress with me on this issue however my mom does not... so we get over ruled cause she sneaks things to him and will pitch a fit if we try and make my nephew do anything.

he is so in the entitlement state at the moment and I just wanna shake it out of him

lol

ok rant over...did this event pertain to the subject. idk, I am just ticked cause my mom called me crying cause my nephew ran his car into a fence lol
