leaf peeping

So, I'm in Kentucky tonight. We're headed for W. Virginia (one of my very favorite states in the whole country!!!), but got kinda a late start, so we stopped here. Fall is Mother's favorite time of year, so I try to go with her when she wants to go look at leaves. We get along marvelously well, and travel very well together, even though we are opposite in personality. We're both very laid-back, though, so we toddle along pretty well.

We came up 75...leaves were dull till Knoxville...from Knoxville to the state line, they were STUNNING. I love Central Tennessee...it's more rolling hills than mountains, and has the most marvelous rocky bluffs all over. And then you climb way up onto the Cumberland Plateau, and it's just really pretty. We are in eastern Kentucky...MEGA horse farms and cattle ranches. I grew up on a farm (as you know), so I am totally enjoying seeing this stuff. Everywhere we've been seems to be pretty prosperous...building stuff going on, restaurants busy, etc. Leaves here aren't as stunning as they were in Tennessee, but they're still very nice.

Tomorrow, we're gonna try to find a rustic cabin at one of the state parks in W. Va. They have great state parks, and their rustic cabins have electricity and running water, and that's about it. They're stuck way up in the woods, and heat is by fireplace, etc. I'm looking forward to it.

Anybody else seen any good leaves this year?

Tennessee has always been, and will always be, my favorite state. I have family all over that state so every time I go its welcoming & happy for me. Glad you are enjoying your time & take some pics!

We're still a week or two from peak, but the leaves are changing nicely. Over the last couple of weeks, as we've traveled to Rome to visit the oldest, we've so enjoyed the new colors.

And I absolutely love Tennessee. We were married there, and I have family there. Can't wait to visit again!

I saw some maples today that were so gorgeous. They were like a coral orange. I just don't think I have noticed that shade before. Just stunningly gorgeous!

We are probably a good week or more away from peak in Blue Ridge, but it is getting quite pretty. I did some clearing down by the lake today and the view was great.

Cades Cove is probably my favorite place on earth. We try to get up there every fall to camp, but will probably miss it this year.

TWINS TWINS TWINS TWINS TWINS!!!!!!! I LOVE that place!!! But I've never camped there, and I'd sure love to. Have you been since they redid the road? How is it? I read that a guy who loves it was the project manager, even though the job was way below his pay grade, because he didn't want it to get screwed up. I hope to go after Christmas when I go see brother in NE TN.

I will be in the mountains next week, so I bet I see some
It will probably be another two weeks before the leaves peak in the N. GA mountains. They're just now starting to turn.

You got that right, sister. We went out of our way going to Alaska several years ago in order to avoid driving through INCREDIBLY BORING Missouri. Geez Louise, I hate that.

We just got back from Blue Ridge. While the leaves hadn't done much changing, it was beautiful!!! We stayed at a friend's cabin and just chilled. I miss it so much.....

Have a great time with your Mama!! Be careful, enjoy the view, tell stories, make memories. :love

While I was stationed at Ft. Eustis, VA (near Williamsburg), I loved driving down the Colonial Parkway during the Fall. It was a beautiful drive when the leaves had peaked during their color change.

You can stop and see my parents in WV, I'm from there. I'd like to take a drive up in the mountains, wonder if I can get hubby to go this weekend.....hmmmm
