Just for a comparison pay scale

Here is what will happen after this takes effect. The fast food industry will have to increase their menu prices to cover the pay increase. That will make their menu unaffordable to a large percentage of customers, putting these places in the red. It will be the mom-and-pop operations that will close shop first. Owners of franchises will be next. The corporate-owned restaurants will start closing their locations next. There are an estimated half million fast food employees in California. Many of them are voters.

I agree except that the corporate owned stores will be able to better afford automation to get rid of expensive employees, so they won't take as much of a hit and may remain open. The food will be unaffordable to the unemployed, but they may stay in business.

The McDonalds in Dublin GA on I-16 has ordering stations where you self checkout your order and pay, removing several cashers. This is only the start.

The Liberals will then give lots of money away to these "poor" unemployed that the "evil business owners" have replaced to show why they should be voted in again. Endless cycle.

I'm sorry, I ate at a "fast" food place for lunch today that NOBODY, including the manager, was moving fast enough to be worth $20 an hour.

There are two fast food places I go to. Once in a while, we go to Chick-fil-A. Even when many people use the drive-thru, they get you out of there fast. They have the best drive-thru service in the industry. The other one we go to is Dairy Queen. Once in a while, we like to get a Blizzard.

As many of you know, my business works closely with the fast food industry. My comments below are mostly limited to the workers, not the management. Some (note I said some) of the management are more intelligent people in career type jobs.

There was a time when fast food places employed a higher level of personnel. They were fairly popular places to work and there were usually some fairly intelligent people working at them, especially on the day shift where there more more adults and middle aged folks.

With the exception of Chick-fil-A, working at fast food places has become "uncool". Jobs there are looked down on and their personnel has become increasingly bottom of the barrel in the labor market. Certainly there are exceptions, but a lot of the people they employ are uneducated and not terribly bright. I don't mean to sound ugly, it just is what it is.

The businesses have had to lower their standards significantly, and that is reflected in what we see when we eat there.

I worked at Mickey Dees when I was a teenager, and things were very different. We wore consistent uniforms and had to observe very strict standards of appearance. We had to be neat and clean, nails trimmed, no facial hair, we were required to wear hairnets if hair was very long, specific shoes. We followed strict rules and there were tight procedures for EVERYTHING!. We even folded the while towels (never call them rags) by a certain procedure so there would be a specific number of cleaning surfaces from them.

Nowadays, employees look like crap, they often have long and nasty hair, facial hair, long nails, jewelry, piercings, make-up, etc. Management is happy just to get bodies to show up for work. They are often rude and uncaring, and are only there to get a paycheck.

Most pf the employees in fast food simply aren't worth much pay. The employees are are better are often offered promotion into management. But restaurants are already paying more than many are worth because they can't get enough help as it is. The Burger King in Dallas is only open part of the time because they don't have enough staff to open full time. The Dairy Queen only recently reopened their lobby after COVID because they didn't have enough staff.

A lot of the workers fast food has are illegals, and the employers know they are illegal but they are desperate for the help. And frankly, they tend to be their better help. Many of them stay because they were grandfathered in to everify.

That's the sorry state we're in. And I don't see it getting much better for awhile.

You don't see this type of employee in fast-food restaurants. You see them everywhere.

When I was 16, it wasn't considered cool to work at a fast-food place. I did it though for a little while in Augusta.

Robotics is the answer to fast food labor costs. They don't need coffee breaks or bathroom breaks, they don't have a bad attitude, they don't call out sick.

Robotics is not only coming, it's already there in limited use. McDonald bought multiple robotics and AI companies a few years ago in anticipation for this. And it's not just about wages, it's about production and efficiency.

The more businesses that replace people with machines, the stronger the Democratic Socialists become because more and more people will become dependent upon the government. Once the Democratic Socialists are in control, kiss the Constitution goodbye altogether. If a fast-food restaurant replaces its employees with kiosks to order from and robots to cook those orders, I won't do business with them.

I don't eat out much.

While my mom was in the hospital and my brother came out to be with her in her final days, we went out to regular restaurants for one meal each day. The cost was shocking.

We did not go to any drive through. We wanted to sit down and just get away from the crazy of the care facility for an hour. Many of the meals we went with family who had come to visit.

We did discus the fact that often if you find a good restaurant, where you know you will get a quality meal and good service, it is not much more than a crappy drive through now a days.

So the question is, will more people chose to go to a sit down non fast food establishment?

I prefer sit-down restaurants over fast food any day. We don't go out to eat as much as we used to because of how much menu prices have increased.

We used to eat Moe’s regularly but I can’t justify the cost anymore. Our fast food now consists of a Pizza Pizza from Little Caesars and an occasional order of Chinese carry out.

Trips to Thomasville usual result in a stop at CFA unless it is on a Sunday.
I’m serious about the pool hall. If you haven’t tried their hot dogs there you really should try them. It’s sorta “a thing” down there.
