Ideas! All you granola munchers! Help!

Pursuit Driver
Help me. With all the rainy weather, I've managed to gain almost 15lbs, total. We were doing so good; I was cooking organic, non-processed, etc. as much as time and budget would allow. But I had already gained some weight with quitting smoking, but I've just made it worse.

I need some recipe ideas. I must lose this weight! I can't afford new jeans!

Also, just as a gripe: I've been a small, petite person for many years. Then BabyB ce along. Since having him I'm finding it much more difficult to lose and keep off weight. It was never this hard for me. Ugh.

You've met me, so you understand why I have no suggestions.

Your hormones are all messed up, probably. It can take a long time for some women to get back on top of it. Some of us never do win that battle. LOL

I'll get you some awesome recipes tomorrow. I hurt too much to get up right now but I do have some really yummy ones.

An easy one that doesn't really need a recipe, just toss things in to taste ... black bean salad. Black beans, corn (if you like), chopped maters and onions (green and red),avocados, some bell pepper (if you like), extra virgin olive oil, lime juice, and seasoning to taste (salt, pepper, chili powder, cayenne) ... lots of versions of this online.

:love Thanks, UM. I am struggling with this. I hate it, and I've never had issues. I'm uncomfortable and not sure how to deal with it. In addition, I'm on medication that finally is helping my UC (nothing prevented of triggered flare ups that we could pinpoint other than stress and lots of peanut butter, lol) so I don't have that weight loss tool anymore. :))

And I will try that recipe. What kind of corn do you use? I am still avoiding GMO ingredients as much as possible.

I don't do as well as I'd like to since I can't exercise much to go with eating but I do have lots of great recipes. I'm not as crazy as SD but I'm pretty out there compared to most folks. Something to think about to help on the budget ... Ingles and Kroger are both pretty good about marking their meats down as they get close to date and they both sell some really good grass-fed/organic products. Some people aren't comfortable buying close to the date on some things, like chicken, but in all my cheap years I've only had one package of bad meat as a result. Given how much I've saved, I'm all over it! Occasionally Kroger puts a their organic stuff on clearance or close-out (even if it i something that they continue to carry :huh ) and you can really clean up on those.

Yes! I do do that. Ingles has really good organic prices (strange, because they are high on everything else!) and Kroger's Simple Truth is reasonable, too. They've also expanded the line.

I've been out walking as much as I can, but all the rain has prevented much outside time. This week we've been out a lot, but haven't been walking. I'm too worried about BabyB getting enough outside time before monsoon season resumes. :))

Could it be the medication you are on causing some weight gain? Lord knows I went thru some weight changes on different meds for Crohn's. :rant

Have you tried eating Quinoa? I eat it a lot on my meat free days and it fills me up and keeps me from snacking. And my favorite website for recipes is skinnytaste.com I cook from that site at least 3-4 times a week, if not more.

No, it's not the meds. Other than I'm not using the bathroom 3-30 times a day anymore. :)) sorry, gross but it is what it is. I'm on Lialda; it's about the same as Asacol (did you have that for Crohn's?)

I have not tried quinoa before. Is it hard to prepare? I'm intimidated by it. Lol I'm off to check out that website. Thanks!

Yes you are... :whistle :taunt

JGB and her suggestion of Quinoa is great. There are tons of sweet and savory recipes out there that use it.

I totally understand about the weight gain/weight loss thing. At one point, I was down to 88 pounds and within 3 months, I was 126 pounds (courtesy of Prednisone). After a few years of being on Remicade, I've settled back down to my "cruising weight" of around 105.

I can't make rice correctly in a dang rice cooker, but I can make Quinoa. Pretty much boil water, add quinoa, wait for 15 minutes or until water is boiled off, pull off heat, uncover, and let sit for 10 minutes before serving. If it's still crunchy after 15 minutes of slow boiling, add more water and keep cooking. I made this recipe a few nights ago using quinoa and it is INCREDIBLE

She said do do. In a thread about do do. :snicker:

OK, GD - you happy now? :D

Man I feel for you folks with UC/Crohn's. Stressful to deal with, and as MrsB said, flare-ups often caused by stress. :(

Truer words have never been spoken... :whistle :whistle
