...which aired this week. Wow...if only half of the accusations are true then why have the authorities not stepped in? Admittedly I know little about the organization, what I have heard is from 3rd party at best so I can't give an educated opinion. Does anyone here have any 1st hand experience with them, or know someone who does?

I've watched the first 2 episodes. That's a whole lotta craziness is all I can say. It's been interesting. I too am curious to know if anyone knows anyone in Scientology or has been a part of it. I didn't notice before but ever since the special has aired I've been seeing Scientology commercials.

I've read several books by former Scientologists... it is both a dangerous cult and a huge money sucking scam.

;)

We watched them. It's Jim Jones on steroids! As mentioned, they depend on those who's parents brought them up in the cult because they were raised to believe such a deception. That's the main reason they try to keep them from leaving.

Serious question, is it like former Catholics? They are the worst and drive me crazy with their accusations and misrepresentations. I have no problem with someone leaving a religion for another, but when you slam or discredit one (especially one that you were a part of for a time) I lose respect for you, and frankly find it hard to believe anything you say. Beliefs can vary and be different without condemning what you do not believe.
I really have no interest in Scientology and do not truly know what they do or do not believe, but was wondering about the ones that come forward after they leave.

I suppose it depends on if the accusations are true. I can't imagine anyone "agreeing" to what the claims describe. losing your family, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to "move up" in the church. Sounds like Amway. Which reminds me, does anyone want to buy any vitamin supplements or washing detergent?

Thanks. I read the first few pages and I will finish later. I know there are cults out there that portray themselves as religions and are far from being a religion, and I do think that Scientology is one. I was just unsure if some of the wild accusations I have seen in headlines were to be believed or not when it is one (or even a couple) persons word against an organization they have left, been asked to leave, or are just at odds with the organization and the organization (and others) state it is not true. Fact verses fiction is getting harder and harder to distinguish with people saying and doing whatever they want and media posting and writing articles of unproven stories as fact. (I am not necessarily speaking of this issue, just in general.)
