I was just wondering.

We all know the story of Jesus and how he was crucified.
Every year people reenact his walk to the hill where he was hung on the cross, carrying a cross.
There are a few pieces of wood and/or nails, that are considered holy relics, that are supposedly from Jesus's cross.
The place where this execution supposedly took place is also visited by people who make pilgrimage to there.

My topic is not whether these supposed relics are real or not.
Not whether they have the right rout or the right place where he was crucified.

My topic is this.
Jesus was executed in the manner that was standard at that time and place.
Just suppose that Jesus died in a different place and time and depending on the place and time, he could have been executed by; the electric chair, the guillotine, hanging, a firing squad, the gas chamber or lethal injection.
Would we be wearing little gold or silver; electric chairs, guillotines, ropes, guns, gas chambers or hypodermic needles; around our necks?
Would people be making that walk with these items?
Would people be making pilgrimage to visit the Atlanta Penitentiary or whatever prison?
Would there be pieces of these instruments of death scattered around the world and revered?

No biggy, just wondering.

(a nod to Lenny Bruce for the thought)

I don't believe it's the crucifixion of Jesus that was so out of the ordinary, but the fact that they couldn't keep Him dead...

Considering the point of Jesus's death on the cross was for payment of our sins, and those who revere the cross do so acknowledging same, I'm guessing the answer would be yes.

My though as well.
Although, I am not one who focuses on the manner of execution.
I have never been a "cross lover".
But I have no real opinion on those who are.

The Middle Ages had a huge market in fake relics. Once, it was said that the amount of wood that was floating around that supposed to be from the Cross was enough to build a boat.

I believe in God. I don't need some kind of a physical relic in order to believe in Him.

And, I believe that whatever method of killing might have been used would become some kind of a symbol. The point of the symbol isn't that a cross is holy. It is supposed to serve as a reminder to us of God's sacrifice. Trouble is, people have confused the symbol with what it represents.
