I wouldn't want to be in his position. The House Republicans are too divided. I bet if they asked Newt to be Speaker he would turn it down. If he did take it, I don't think he would have much success either. Face it, there are some who want it there way and unfortunately, they are to the extreme right.I‘m not taking either side with MTG on this one but I will ask what positive contributions has the Speaker made since holding the position? I’m not not implying that he hasn’t made any, I‘m just not thinking of any.
Many of us here have been rightfully complaining for years that the GOP establishment is little better than the Democrats; they tax and spend almost as much.Face it, there are some who want it there way and unfortunately, they are to the extreme right.
You're never going to accomplish much when you alienate so many people in your party when you are like a bull in a China shop. That demonstrates poor leadership because it's not influencing anyone. How MTG and the others like her are acting is only causing further division among the House Republicans. Many of us here have been rightfully complaining for years that the GOP establishment is little better than the Democrats; they tax and spend almost as much.
So now that we have some younger, more conservative members of congress trying to change that, why are we opposed to it?
Granted, they are lacking in tact (especially MTG), but are they wrong for wanting to make the party more fiscally conservative?
I don't think so.
How much do you think any Republican can accomplish as Speaker when the House Republicans are divided like they are? What we have is two factions of the House Republicans who are not willing to compromise with each other. Those on the extreme right are calling those who don't agree with them RINOs. Personally, if they can't unite, they stand a good chance of losing the majority this November. Who will they blame?I guess my question is, what if MTG is right? I'm not saying she is, I'm just raising the possibility. I can't say I'm impressed with Johnson, he's done nothing that I'm aware of which would cause us to be proud he is Speaker. Just more of the same same same, IMO.

Naturally it's to lead, however, MJT and those to the far right like her didn't want Johnson to begin with, so he was behind the 8 ball to begin with. It would have been the same for anyone from the far right who became Speaker. There are two ways to deal with division
1) Placate and compromise
2) Lead
Which is best?
But Johnson is not leading, he's compromising. Yeah, a speaker probably has to do some of that, but he's giving the Dems almost everything they want. Nancy Pelosi even voted to keep him.Naturally it's to lead, however, MJT and those to the far right like her didn't want Johnson to begin with, so he was behind the 8 ball to begin with. The only way to get a balanced budget amendment passed is to go through the States. Every Republican Rep and and Senator needs to push the legislatures' in their states to hold a Constitutional convention.
