Shoes!!!!
My a/c is running but nothing cold is coming out! The house is starting to burn up. Is there anything we can check or do? Our guy can't come out until who knows? He said we will go on the list!!! :faint

Everything is running, nothing froze up.

The a/c guy said he thinks it is our capacitor again.

Okay as I typed this son just said it just started blowing cold air out. What the heck? The house is up to 85 so I know I am not crazy!

Could be capacitor. They are all made in China and Mexico now and they are junk.

When was the last time the condenser coil was cleaned?

Also, do you have the utility company box on it where they can cut it off to manage the grid loads? If so, they might be shutting units off on a rotating basis to manage their loads.

We do not have a box on it.
The coil was cleaned last year.
Everything is made elsewhere and is junk. pft.

Is it still cooling?

Yes.
How can that be? (I am glad, but now worried since it did stop cooling then started back.)

Compressor got hot and shut down on internal overload. It might do it again.

A trick if it does...hook up a waterhose and spray nozzle and set it up to spray just a fine mist on the condenser coil. That might buy you some time.

Logical. It has been running non stop with this heat.
I can do that! :))
Do you think it is about to go? Should I stay on the list for a repair?

I would. The capacitor might be weak, and the coil might need cleaning again. When it's this hot, everything needs to be perfect. Coil must be whistle clean, capacitor strong, etc. The equipment is stressed and there's no room for error.

And yeah, the HVAC/refrigeration guys are getting murdered right now. My on-call guy was out fixing walk-in coolers until 3:00 AM this morning, and back up early with more emergencies. This heat is just killing the equipment. As I mentioned in the other thread, we're not designed for these temps in this area.

Well, except for my house. ;D

It's 72 degrees in here.

And I could go lower if I wanted.

BTW...misting the condenser coil will make it cool waaaaay better too. Of course, your water bill will go up some, but better than being hot.

You don't want to do it all the time because the chorine in city water will eat the coils up. But a few days here and there won't hurt.
