Georgia will Apply for Waiver From NCLB

I find that article disturbing. I think all of us in this community are critical of NCLB for various reasons. I agree that it is unrealistic and a "one-size-fits-all" program that needs to be addressed. But I don't like us applying for a waiver when, according to this article, we don't yet know what will be expected!

Each state has made themselves dependent upon federal funding. That federal funding since Carter created the Department of Education has come with strings attached to it and look at the state of our public schools today. Have you ever seen the movie "Idiocracy?"

Yes it does.
Overall there are many bad points to NCLB, but there are many good ones. 100% goal for all is not realistic, unless a specific 100% is measured for each child.
Who knows what we just applied for? I will say it again, as sad as I am (and going broke people, do you know how expensive senior year is???) my child will be graduating, I am glad on a personal level I will no longer have to deal with the school and these new rules they bring.

I still have a grand child in the system and this just makes me more convinced that we need school choice that would include an opt out of the Public Schools.

SD if you think senior year is expensive just wait until your child starts to college. Even with the Hope Scholarship it is expensive. Grandkid went to get books today and they were around $600. Don't know how much parking fees and other fees will be not to mention gas just to get there and back. Course all of that comes after buying the transportation. ::)

Oh I know. My husband decided to get his masters on top of working about 65 hours a week. :huh Every book is at least $100.00 (and believe me I buy used) and he has to pay all the fees, even the activity and all that jazz that he is not doing. The fees just went up this quarter substantially. I think we pay more in fees and books than for the classes. He is set to graduate just in time for the child to start college.

Good for him. Hubby did something similar.
