Feds: Goodyear Knew of RV Tire Defects for 20 Years, Did Nothing

I wonder if the G159 are the ones people called the "China bombs" which are the ones well known by RVers to immediately replace? Maybe they're we're actually manufactured in China, or maybe Goodyear outsourced it. Interesting article.

This is an interesting case, since Goodyear made the tire to last for stop and go delivery vehicles with a limited speed rating. So who's fault is it that they were sold as long distance freeway speed tires? If they were original equipment on an RV, then the RV manufacturer has the responsibility to select the proper load and speed rating. If they were after market replacements, the tire dealer is at fault for not doing do diligence. But when the first RV crashed with those tires, Goodyear should have been waving red flags all over about using the wrong tire.

An RV channel I've watched recommends nothing but new Michelin's for front steers and Kumo for rears,,, I see why.

These aren't the China bombs. Goodyear tires have been known to suck in the RV community for years. However, this recall is for tires that were manufactured so long ago that it would be amazing if they were still on any RV. My coach, on a Freightliner chassis, came with Goodyear tires size 275/70 R 22.5. They suffered from "rivering", which was basically excessive tread wear on some of the inside tread tracks. It was a common issue that Goodyear avoided doing anything about, and I know several people who had blowouts with Goodyear tires, even when properly inflated. And, my tires were made after the tires under the current recall. I replaced them with Continental tires a couple of years ago, and have had no issues since.
