Driving Pet Peeves

-When a storm (or whatever) causes the traffic light to flash red in one direction and yellow in another it is NOT treated as a 4-way stop ... no matter what the idiot on the radio says.

-If you are headed one direction and an ambulance is headed the other with lights and sirens, you do not need to change anything about your driving unless the ambulance needs to come into your lane to get around something in theirs. If their lane is clear, KEEP DRIVING.

-If there is a physical barrier between one side of the road and the other, traffic on the opposite side does not stop for a school bus.

-If a number of people flash their lights at you thinking that you have your high beams on it might be time to have them adjusted. They're likely not aimed properly.

:sermon Preach it! I almost got hit by an idiot that had been stopped and decided to go because it was his turn! Are you kidding me? Who taught you to drive and why do the radio people say that? ? ? ?

-When stopping behind another vehicle at a traffic light, you still need to leave proper spacing. If you can not see where their rear tires make contact with the road, you are too close. (multiple reasons for this rule)

-The exception to this rule ... if pulling up that last little bit will make it possible for the car behind you to make it into the turn lane, pull up.

-When stopping in traffic, do not block a road or active business entrance/exit. Leave a gap so that people can still get in/out.

And if I leave proper spacing with the car in front of me, it is NOT an opening for you to change lanes suddently.

Also, CHECK THAT BLIND SPOT! I literally turn my whole head and physically look with my eyes, AFTER turning on the turn signal and BEFORE actually changing lanes. My first accident was just a few weeks ago and it was because the woman didn't check her blind spot...OR turn on the blinker, before she decided she wanted where I was.

Quite a bit of my driving pet peeves were listed already. Another one I have is the idiots on the expressway who get in the express lane and drive the same slow speed as the car to their right. This makes traffic back up quickly. You have no idea how many times I wish I could just tap their bumper with the front of my big truck and send them spinning off the roadway.

If you are in the left lane of a multi lane highway, and several vehicles catch up to you, then they are obviously traveling at a higher rate of speed than you are GET OVER hence the signs posted EVERYWHERE slower traffic keep to the right.

I have new driving pet peeves since moving to Rockmart. My #1 is that everyone out here meanders all over the damn road. Nobody is used to real traffic I guess, and most of the time you have a large part of the road to yourself...so people look around, drifting out of their lanes and it makes me nuts! I have driven Atlanta traffic most of my life so this meandering stuff is alien to me. Another thing is that everyone tends to drive slower here...guess they have no where to be. Grrrrrrrrrr

Funny note: there is an old man out here that drives a minivan and he is on the road ALL DAY LONG around town. Doing what? I have no clue, but I see him in my shopping center at least 3 times a day, usually see him on my way to and from work also. No matter what road he is on, he is driving 35 MPH. He could be on 278 but he is not gonna push that minivan above 35 MPH. He's the reason for most traffic jams (if you can call them that) out here. LOL

My biggest pet peeve - those geniuses who think that it's perfectly okay to get in the center or left turn lane and make a right turn in front of me when I'm in the right lane. Happens to me at least once a week in Atlanta. Also, those people who are pulling out of a parking garage that expect you to stop to let them out just because traffic is starting to slow down. Wait your turn!!

And, cops directing traffic at intersections in the afternoons - that chaps my cheeks too. We have tons of redlights in Atlanta, GET OUT OF THE ROAD! Surely, the city of Atlanta can use you somewhere else. There's a little man on 14th Street that I'm going to take out one day! :rant

And, people who sit at a traffic light after it turns green! Get of the phone, pay attention and GO!

And, bus drivers. These rocket scientists like to cut off people and if they hit you, they usually keep going. I've seen more cars get clipped driving by the Arts Center Station because these buses will make a right turn onto West Peachtree Street and just start moving over with no regard to oncoming traffic.

Then there are pedestrians who like to take their sweet time walking across the street, or they disregard the crossing signals and just cross whenever they feel like it.

Then there are panhandlers who like to come out and attempt to clean windows at the traffic lights. :rant

moving to Rockmart.

Uh...that would be your original mistake. ;)

It's actually nice living at a slower pace but I do miss being close to my friends & church. Just wish folks here could make a lane commitment. LOL
