Some you are aware that I am a Type-2 Diabetic. So it is that time of the year.

SO I AM STEPPING OUT BECAUSE...

It is that time to Step Out to Fight Diabetes! :CLAP

I am a statistic; I have Type-2 Diabetes and have been since January 2007.

On June 21, 2010, I lost my mother due to complications of illnesses and one those complications was diabetes.

This will be my 6th year that I will be walking for a cure at Independence High School in Alpharetta, GA. on October 6, 2012.

Total prevalence of diabetes statistics (2011):

Total: 25.8 million children and adults in the United States-8.3% of the population-have diabetes.

Diagnosed: 18.8 million people

Undiagnosed: 7.0 million people

Prediabetes: 79 million people*

New Cases: 1.9 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed in people aged 20 years and older in 2010.

* In contrast to the 2007 National Diabetes Fact Sheet, which used fasting glucose data to estimate undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes, the 2011 National Diabetes Fact Sheet uses both fasting glucose and A1C levels to derive estimates for undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes. These tests were chosen because they are most frequently used in clinical practice.

In Georgia, the statistics are:

Georgia diabetes statistics and death rates:

-7.2 out of every 100 adults in Georgia have diabetes, ranking it 12th highest in the nation for the ratio of people with diabetes in the general population.

-22.9 out of every adult 100,000 deaths in Georgia are due to diabetes, ranking 36th in the nation for diabetes-related deaths.

-In 2005, 511,000 Georgia adults were diagnosed with diabetes and by 2007 10% of the total adult population had been diagnosed with diabetes.
