Cops use "Flip A Coin" app to decide Arrest or Ticket

What do you think? All in a day's work...gotta do something to make it more fun? Or, not on my tax dollar?

ROSWELL, Ga. (CBSLA) — Two Georgia police officers have come under scrutiny after video emerged of them deciding whether or not to arrest a speeding driver based on the flip of a digital coin.

Body cam footage of the April 7 incident shows Roswell Police Officer Courtney Brown berating 24-year-old hairdresser Sarah Webb, asking her, “So you think driving that fast on a wet road is a smart idea because you’re late for work?”

“I’m sorry,” Webb responds, voice quaking.

The footage then shows Brown returning to her patrol vehicle, where she and her partner discuss if they will arrest Webb.

The other officer identified as Kristee Wilson then opens up a coin-flipping app on the on-board computer.
“‘A’ (Arrest), head; ‘R’ (Release), tail,” Wilson says before both officers giggle.

Former Los Angeles Police Sgt. Cheryl Dorsey told IE she thinks this isn’t the cops’ first time doing this “because they did it with ease.”

“They knew right where to go for the app, they did the coin toss, they thought it was cute,” Dorsey continued.

After the video surfaced, charges against Webb were dropped.

Depends on the infraction. If they have the ability to issue a warning if the driver demonstrates contrition, then they should be able to flip a coin if they are not sure about the contrition part. I greatly prefer that to the month end quota system.

No radar...that would make it tough to stick the charges unless there was weaving and such on the dash cam. They would have been better off just ticketing her for speeding and hoping she just pays it. Pretty obvious she deserved something, but arrest is discretionary and probably uncalled for here.

I guess I see it differently. Most people anxiously sit in the car hoping for a warning instead of a ticket. Isn't it basically a coin toss? I'd take the 50/50 chance.

IMO...

The attitude one presents to the police at a traffic stop...
Has a lot to do with whether one gets let off... or railroaded.

What the cops did... was WRONG!

And if the cops are not practicing correct behavior...
And we know the polecats (all the way from city council to Congress) are not practicing correct behavior...
Why should anyone follow any law???
