Cheap Ba$tards

aka "The Jackal"
The AC at the cabin is less than a year old and has less than 100 hours on it. The outside coil is leaking in several places, an obvious manufacturing defect. The installer contacted Bryant to get another outside unit and they refused, saying that they would only ship a new coil. Not only will this cause the installing dealer a great pain, but it leaves possibly damaged components in the system as the compressor may have been damaged from a lack of lubrication. Bryant's attitude is that IF the compressor fails in the next 4 years, they will replace it under warranty. The dealer said that he suspects this is because I am the second homeowner, and the warranty just went from 10 years to 5 on the transfer. They are betting that the compressor makes it the 4 more years of warranty, and his hands are tied.

I must say that I really like the dealer up in Blue Ridge, James Thomas Air. They have been Johnny on the spot when I have called both times, and the owner himself was there this last time. he said that no matter what, he isn't going to charge me a dime. It's just a shame that Bryant won't stand behind their product in a manner that protects their customer and their dealers, and instead chooses to hide behind a loophole in the warranty. The moral of the story is don't buy Bryant.

Bryant is one of the Carrier brands.

Maybe some others.

But sadly, most manufacturers would probably have the same policy
