I'm Floored
Lover of BS!
It was a good article, deewee!
From my view, I make this argument: I realize many churches have a disdain for CCM. They truly believe a set of drums, an electric guitar, and a keyboard (rather than an organ) will send its parishioners straight to hell.
Other churches still adhere to the hymns of old, while incorporating modern instruments into their music. Other churches have full bands, lights, stage, etc.
My church plays contemporary worship music. We also sing hymns - albeit with a "modern" arrangement.
I think what this article speaks to mostly is LYRICS of songs, rather than the actual MUSIC.
We believe that the style of worship is merely a preference. For some, contemporary sound is their choice. Others would rather listen to southern gospel. Some prefer classical. I've been a church member of all three of those. For me, I prefer contemporary music. The others can actually be a distraction for me.
There are some contemporary Christian songs that are shallow. Some are just good entertainment. And some are deep, thoughtful, soulful worship. I'm blessed in that my church selects WORSHIP songs, rather than Contemporary Christian Music that you may hear on the radio (which I still prefer to listen to on a daily basis.)
There are some beautiful hymns. Wonderful, deep, thoughtful, soulful worship. And there are hymns that are shallow, "life stinks, just hold on 'til ya get to heaven", or even plain UNBIBLICAL "hymns" too.
I think it really gets down to the style of music you prefer to listen to or worship with. Hopefully, you are blessed with a Music Minister or Worship Leader who seeks true worship LYRICS to go along with the style you prefer. After all, it's all about our worship to God.
