Bunn Coffeemaker Leak

We have had our bunn coffeemaker for 11 years and it just started leaking water after it has had water added and begins to brew. It comes from the bottom of the coffeemaker and leaks out on the counter. I have looked online and found this seems to be a common problem for bunn. We have been fortunate apparently that it hasn't started before now.

I see that I have the option of hopefully repairing it myself. There is a place that has melted over time and supposedly can be repaired with silicone.

This is probably a dumb question but here goes, would you worry about hot water coming in contact with this silicone and drinking the coffee afterwards? Is silicone food safe or are there particular ones that are?

Food grade silicone is indeed safe for contact with food. Make sure it says "food grade" or that it has language mentioning NSF or FDA on it.

Silicone typically can withstand temps of 500 degrees or more, depending on the type.

Be sure to clean the surface with denatured alcohol prior to applying.

Thanks so much GD!

Mine did the same thing!! I love my Bunn, fortunately mine was still under warranty and they shipped me a brand new one. There's a youtube video on how to fix that. It's the silicone seal that causes the leak. I believe it shorted out the electrical connections in mine. I hear it's an easy fix if you get it early.

Bunn has pretty much owned the commercial coffee maker industry for decades.

I have owned many a coffee maker in my day Bunn by far makes the best coffee in my opinion. Didn't know they made a residential one until a neighbor bought my parents one as a gift.

As in commercial use the home model does make a great cup of coffee. It aggravates me that bunn has let the problem go on for years apparently. I guess they want to make even more $ in repairs. But, if it goes out I would go out and buy another bunn because they just are that good.

That's what I did :soashamed Walmart has them for around $100.00, I bought another one before I knew the old one was still under warranty (3 years). So now I have a brand new one sitting in the garage, for just in case. LOL
