Bully Alert! Dallas Mayor Boyd Austin Contacts The Employer Of His Political Opp

I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I don't think it rises to the level of calling anyone a "bully." You say that it's his constitutional right to run for office while he should be working (see quote from your article below). If he's supposed to be working, should he be paid for campaigning? Makes you wonder what he will be doing during city business hours if he is elected as mayor.

"It is a sad day when local citizens can not exercise their constitutional right to run for elected office without having their careers and livelihood threatened "

Perhaps Austin showed a little poor taste, but bullying? I'm not so sure about that...

P.S. Let me note that I don't have a dog in this fight - I live in South Paulding outside of the city limits of both Dallas and Hiram.

Yeah, not sure that is bullying, but it sure is boneheaded politically. (I also do not have a dog in this fight, living in NE Paulding nowhere near the Dallas City Limits.)

I know exactly how I feal about this. It's dirty politics from the git go. There is absolutely NO WAY that Austin could know if or if not Mr. Tingler was required to be at work on a given date and time. Therefore, contacting his employer was so obviously harassment that it stinks to high heaven. It may even be actionable.

I heard about this a few days ago. I will wait to see the letters to comment.

NJ, the letter from GT is at the website now. They've pretty much just confirmed that Boyd called and what he called for. They provided the letter for Marvin to use as he wishes. Obviously, GT is not going to disclose anything about their employees to just anyone who asks. BTW, this is the 2nd instance of this from a county official. In the 2nd instance, a private citizen had a letter from the county sent to their employer. The person is not running for office and their only crime was criticizing the county via their facebook. Details on this are not available yet for publication. Can you say thugocracy?

Holy crap. IF TRUE, I could well be having letters sent to my employer from a couple of agencies. Not cool. Not cool at all. IF TRUE.

I did see the letter from GT. I can say that I would never have done that if I were running for office. What would be the gain?

If Tingler had gotten fired over it, he would have MORE time to campaign. ;)

WOW! Poor taste. I do not live inside the city limits so I can not vote, but something like this would possibly swing my vote if all other things were equal.

The letter is posted. I call it political bully and intimidation. What Boyd did is about as far as anyone can go by messing with someone's present employment which also affects Marvin's career and family. THAT my friends is stepping over the line whether in politics or not. He could very well be served with an ethical complaint.

Btw, there is another story out there about someone else too. Not sure if that will break or not although I know what its about and it isn't pretty considering its another elected official playing hardball.

I know that story as well and in that case, this elected official could be in much larger trouble by doing what "they" did.

Was it Austin who called or someone using Austin's name?
It was Boyd and a letter from GA Tech states that as well.

Just because GT says it's Austin because the caller said he was, doesn't mean it was him. I could your employer and say I'm Austin and your employer wouldn't know it wasn't. I'm just saying.

I agree with Fox, sounds a lot like dirty politics to me. Could have been anyone calling or wrote the letter......including Boyd's opponent!

Man, talk about conspiracy theories. Boyd was bragging about it at a public event a few days ago. Call him up and ask him. I'm sure he'll admit to it.

In an earlier post, you said you heard another elected official saying Boyd called GT. Are you now saying you heard Boyd say it?
