I am doing a low country boil feast up at the lake next weekend and was thinking what else I could use my outdoor cooker for. I know water salt and boil the crap out of them I guess. Any one know?

Make sure you use raw peanuts. If they're already roasted, they won't boil. We did them for Sean's ball team a long time ago. All I really remember is lots and lots of salt.

Here's Paula Deen's recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/boiled-peanuts-recipe2/index.html

If I remember, it was 1/2 to 3/4 cup salt for every pound of peanuts. Rinse the peanuts well, place them in a very large pot, and cover them with the salt water. Cook (low boil) until tender, about 4-5 hours for 4 pounds. Let set for 1-2 hours more if you want them a bit saltier, and drain. They will keep for about a week in baggies in the fridge. You can add cajun spice or Old Bay for a little pizazz, but I prefer them plain.

Dumb question. Do you eat the shell when boiled? Lol I've never had any because I didn't know how to eat them. Lol

Nope, I open them and just eat the peanut. I'm not a big fan, they taste like salty pinto beans to me. :dunno

BTW, Mom stepping up here, there is no such thing as a dumb question. :) :hug

That's what I say and my husband thinks I'm crazy! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. I can make a pot of pinto beans and it's a lot less work! :))

I used to cook mine in the crock pot. Granted it's not a huge batch of peanuts, but it's enough for two people. Never followed a recipe though. I just threw a bag in with water, salted the heck out of them and forgot about them til the next day. :)

Find your pressure cooker! LOL. I can't find any raw peanuts. I am gonna try Carolina Farmin' store tomorrow, if they don't have them no big deal

Oddly no considering they are based in NC. I went to Harris Teeter which is known to carry some unusual stuff you can't find at a typical grocery store
