Yep, it's a great ad. And yeah, I'm seriously pissed off about it too. I've told my story before; I worked nights and weekends, often in hot attics, in my 50s to put my kid through college. And no regrets!
Yeah, I know some people disagree with paying for your kid's education. My kid obeyed the rules and worked hard; she worked 2 and 3 jobs while being a full time student to pay for other expenses. I wanted her to start her new, adult life without being strapped by debt. I had the skills and abilities to start a side business, and I did. I'm proud that I could do this for her, she she has always appreciated it. She saw her daddy work hard and make sacrifices for family, so it was a good example set too. She knows a real man does whatever it takes to provide for his family, even if that means work day and night.
But back on topic...it pisses me off that I worked like a dog to get my kid an education, and now people are getting a free ride. Even worse, many of them took BS courses and got BS degrees that aren't worth crap. I can't tell you how many young people I know that have degrees that are good for nothing but wall decoration. Most of them are baby sitting, waiting tables, etc. Nothing wrong with that, but that's not what they went 100 grand in debt for.
I don't believe in student loans. Either find a way to pay for college or don't do. In the current economy, you can make excellent money in the trades without any college education. I'm not against college, but it's not for everyone, and you can be successful without it.
