Banning Islam and closing mosques.

To me, the first sign that someone knows deep in their heart their position is unsustainable and unsupportable is when they refuse to discuss it and just state over and over what their position is, or state it and leave. In this case, he appears to be one of those that Cain is always accusing us of being: an Alt-Right leaning person claiming to be a Conservative.

There are peaceful Muslims and extremist Muslims, same as their are peaceful Christians and extremist Christians . It's the extremists that are the issue and they must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, no matter what the religion they use to justify their violence.

Yes, the founding fathers were concerned about a situation like the Church of England when writing Constitution. However, I feel they should have been well aware of the Muslims and their religion since the crusades were nearly 600 years before. If they had desired that only Christianity be allowed in the nation, I think they would have included that. They did not.

Does my Christianity sometimes conflict with my being an American? Yep. However, one of the basics of Christianity is the freedom to reject it if you desire without issue on this world, your judgement will be in the next. Because of this, I want to fall on the side of Freedom.

If "clickish" means the members here have grown fond of each other, then guilty as charged. But Jawja, you were part of that "click", and still can be.

How using the power of big government to repress free speech and ban religious expression is a conservative principle is beyond me. One of the main tenants of conservatism is limited government.

I feel sure everyone here is well aware of the dangers from radical Islam, but to condemn all followers of Islam and ban their faith is to lower ourselves to the level of those who would persecute Christians in other countries. That is not what Americans do, and I don't think it's what Jesus would do.

Jawja - You and I have a mutual HVAC acquaintance who is a practicing Muslim, and I believe you and he have hung out some . I'm pretty sure he is not a terrorist, would you ban his faith and places of worship?

Lastly - This is the beauty of The Hwy. We had a disagreement here but everyone stayed reasonably civil.

Sorry to see anyone leave. I'd rather have the Hwy with varied views on topics than all like-minded thinkers. On the other hand, I despise intolerance.

I don't think it even matters if it's a "slippery slope." I firmly believe we will see the day when the government will come directly after Christian Churches, wheter anything has been done to the muslims or not. Wait until they are in charge and we'll see what happens to Christian Worship. They'll be no slippery slope, it'll be full blown OFF THE CLIFF for them all.

I think that is what jawja is saying here : allowing a barbaric religion of hate to set up shop in a modern country of peace and brotherhood!

I think he is saying due to the tenets of the religion, to kill all infidels, it is counter to living in a country that has many infidels.

However, constitutionally people are protected to have freedom of worship in the US. My mom's family immigrated from Sweden to the US for freedom of religion...
