Atlanta police killed on interstate remembered for "infectious" smile

A veteran Atlanta police officer was struck by a vehicle and killed just north of the Downtown Connector late Tuesday night, APD Chief George Turner said.

The officer who was killed -- a 15-year veteran -- was assisting another officer with an earlier traffic accident on the Brookwood Interchange ramp from I-75 southbound to I-85 northbound, and had just gotten out of her patrol car when she was hit, according to Turner.

The Zone 5 morning watch officer had just started her shift when she was hit. The officer, whose name is being withheld until relatives are notified, died at the scene...

She looks like hell in that mug shot. I'd like to slap her into next week, but it wouldn't do any good...six more would just replace her. :sigh: What the HELL are people thinking when they drink and think they can get behind the wheel of a car?!?!? Ye gods. I'm just so sorry.

She does look like hell in her mug shot and I'm with you, I'd like to slap her into next week too. I was listening to the news earlier tonight and one of the stations had interviewed the 22 year old's mother and one of the first things out of her mouth is that "her daughter is a model". Who freakin cares if she is a model - she is also a murderer!

I really feel bad for this woman's family, the Atlanta PD and all LEO that have the possibility of facing something this horrific. God bless them all.......

How. Utterly. Pathetic. I swear, if that were my daughter, I would be so horrified and mortified on so many levels - I'd NEVER say anything to the press or public. Ye gods. It's not hard to see where some of these kids get their idiocy. :sigh:

This makes me want to cry - this is the first picture I have seen of the police officer and she looks so very proud to wear that uniform. Her smile is beautiful and she just looks like a wonderful person, inside and out. I pray that God will comfort her family, friends and all LEO officers as they deal with this senseless tragedy.

I tried to say out of this as it brings back to many memories of the 2 friends I lost at Cobb SO.

Fox5 just reported that the young girl that caused this wreck, this was her 6th major traffic offense but did not say what the previous charges were. But the judge stated on camera that this "person" has a problem showing up to court also and ordered a No Bond on these charges.

This was her 7th incident, according to what I heard. The other 6 ... tickets. 6 tickets in the last 5 years. 4 for speeding and 2 for "erratic, improper lane change" ... that's what the report said. She supposedly skipped court on four of those and 1 resulted in an accident.
 
Yeah, this is sounding not good for this girl. I'm sorry for her, because she's young and has her whole life ahead of her. But that police woman was just doing her job, and she had her whole life ahead of her, too. And now she's dead thanks to this girl's unwillingness to practice even a modicum of common sense. :sigh:
 
Holy crap. I just read where she blew a .16 on the breathalyzer. She refused a blood alcohol test, so they got a warrant and drew it at Grady. Be interesting to see what that shows. She had three other people in the car with her. :sigh:
