Ashamed of you, Fox 5

Madea

zip a dee doo dah
:Stick :Stick :Stick

I'm sure you think it's news, but showing pictures of where the 22 yo girl (who's charged with DUI, and probably vehicular homicide) lives is just bad business!!!

I fixed it.

No..shame on that chick for drinking and driving and taking a life

I'm not absolving her of guilt. Her guilt doesn't make Fox 5 right. I just don't think they should have shown pictures of her home. And, quite frankly, I don't think Fox 5 should have posted on Facebook looking for this girl's family and friends.

I agree with you Madea. I have also seen some of the stuff people have been posting on her group page on FB and it is bad. She should pay for what she did, no doubt, she changed her life, took a life and impacted many others in an instant. BUT the hatred spewing from people is really frightening.

Sadly our media has completely lost sight of the line of decency. While I in no way defend this stupid girl, her family should still have their privacy. But you know, the media shows where cops live and outs cops while sensitive investigations are still ongoing even without charges. How does that work out for their families/kids? There is such a rush to beat the other guy to the story that respect and common sense have completely disappeared. Another example ... though shame on them for not being more careful getting out of vehicles while going commando, there was a time not so long ago that no media outlet would ever consider sharing up-skirt shots of celeb women.

Fox showed pictures of her home, her work, and her Facebook page. Talked to her friends and neighbors. How does that change the outcome? Do they want to hear "oh she was a good girl". That doesn't change the outcome either! If folks are trashing her on Facebook, what if they start going to her home?

Very good point.

And as I mentioned before, they do similar with cops, too. How safe is a cop's family if mad citizens show up at their home or harass their child at school or whatever? The media as a whole sickens me.

"Be sure to zoom in close so we can watch that person take their last breath on live tv ... nevermind that their family might see it."

Very true. :(

When I took a first glance at the title, I thought you were directing something at me; then I saw the 5.

I think it's irresponsible journalism for them to carry the story this far. Her friends and family had nothing to do with the decision she made to get behind the wheel after drinking. They have nothing to do with it at all.

I also find it irresponsible when reporters do the same crap by doing the same stuff with police officers. Do they not realize they are putting the officer's family at risk and ridicule? Sure they do, but they don't care because all they care about is creating a story rather than just reporting the facts of an event that took place. They want the ratings to increase the advertising dollar in their coffers.

The news media at large doesn't care about responsibility or remaining objective when reporting the news. They feel it's necessary to sensationalize it and inject their own personal opinion. I've had a distaste for news reporters for some time. There's one locally who calls himself a reporter who serves as a perfect example of what a news reporter should not be. I think you all may know what heavy weight "champion" of local news I'm talking about.

I agree. These stories should not impact family members or co-workers who most likely have nothing AT ALL to do with what the accused has done.

It's sad to me. It would be one thing if they were trying to give some sort of positive spin on the story, but it always seems like they just want to dig to found out every possible detail of the girl's life before one of the other networks. Who cares what her family and friends think - this girl took the life of well-respected police officer, we should be focusing on that and on all of the wonderful things that this officer did to help people.

This morning I was reading where a WSB reporter was the one to tell the girl's mother what had happened. Nice. ::)

(we need a better rolling eyes emoticon)

Agreed on both the reporter and the emoticon.

That's really the most important thing.
