Are we defiling the temple of God?

I always dress, and by dress I mean dresses, skirts. I think I have once or twice worn pants in all my years that I can remember. Again, you have to remember I go to a formal traditional church and grew up going to parochial schools. :))

Ditto here. I don't even like wearing nice pants. Just my personal style. Now, I don't wear hose anymore, unless I'm going to something TRES unusual. But dress, heels, yeah. In summer, nicer sandals.

I often wonder if Jesus and his Disciples showed up in our churches today dressed in the garments they wore back then, how would they be treated ? (Assuming nobody knew who they were.)

There are some who say reading scripture from a electronic device is wrong, it needs to be read from a real Bible. I could say reading from a bound book is just as wrong - scripture needs to be read from a Scroll just like Jesus did.

I know a church where some people using Bible apps on their tablet got fussed out by a few folks.

I was one of the first in my church to start bringing a tablet for a Bible. I love it, because I can instantly access the books and chapters, and even change versions if needed. After I started using it, a few folks started asking me if anyone had said anything to me, and I answered no. Almost immediately I started seeing lots of people with them. LOL

I still read from my two stone tablets, guess it's time for an upgrade. :whistle

Satan has obviously distracted me in my research on defiling the temple by giving me some other nonsense to deal with. But, when I think of what to wear to church, I'm reminded of the story of the woman who gave a little money compared to the rich man who gave more and Jesus said that her sacrifice was greater because she gave all that she had.

I don't agree with that. If you are wearing your best as am I, then I do not see a difference as in one giving more than another. (if ones best is Goodwill and the other Saks...still does not matter, both are the same. Their best.)

Now I believe the story is correct that someone that gives all they have and another just gives "more" but not all they have, the first one would be sacrificing more.

I worded that badly - it was supposed to be an analogy. The woman, who was poor, gave all that she had. The wealthy man gave only out of their savings. So, if you can't afford clothes, but wear your best, God will honor that and doesn't expect you to go to Saks for a Hugo Boss suit.

Mark 12:42-44: A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on."

I honestly believe that God does not worry about this kind of stuff.

You mean the women who wear pants to church aren't going straight to hell?

I don't know about "straight". :)

It is real simple, church should be exactly like it was when I was a kid, except for the parts that I didn't like, we should change those.
But we should only change them to ways that I do like.

I often wonder if God sits up there (wherever "up there" is) and says to himself, "They spend more time arguing over how to learn about what I am trying to teach them than they do trying to learn what I want to teach them." :big sigh: "I give these people the keys to piece and tranquility, not to mention eternal life and they argue and fight over what form to study it in, what to wear while studying or what kind of music to play." :another big sigh: "Oh well, I guess that's what free will is all about."
:God grumbling to himself:
"Give em a million dollars and they would fight over what denominations to get it in, whether to get cash, a check, a money transfer, in gold or silver or just all in pennies."

True story. :sigh:

It would appear the Bible agrees with you. ;)

I Samuel 16:7 (New Living Translation) - But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
