Amazon Shipping

It pains me to say this, but the one that was my favorite shipper 2-3 years ago is now the absolute worst.

UPS

They have driven through my front yard, gotten a truck stuck in my back yard (which I had to help get her out because she kept steering the wrong way when the wrecker was pulling her), dumped at least two of my packages at the street, backed into the power pole in my turnaround, breaking the conduit my cable runs in, and now, apparently delivered one of my packages to someone else for the second time in recent months.

I have started a claim at Amazon, and will be contacting Amazon (for all the good it might do) requesting that they never ship my packages via UPS again.

AMZL is doing a decent job these days, and I never thought I'd say this, but the USPS is by far the best. Amazon is replacing them with their own though.

I think they are all hit or miss these days. I've had better luck with Amazon Logistics in the new condo than I had in the old. USPS seems good. I'd say FedEx is the best but Amazon doesn't use them as much.

I receive all my packages at the UPS store where my PO boxes are
(It is a matter of principle... I will NEVER have a PO box at the USPS again... long story)

Anyhow... as long as I can get by the store before 7 PM... my packages are there and secure!

Alyssa ordered something from Amazon that Amazon's shipping was used. On Wednesday, they reported that it was delivered and handed to an individual at the address. Well it was not to this address because I was home. She had to wait an extra day to make sure it somehow magically appeared before they decided to ship her another one. How hard is it to make sure you are are at the right house on the right street? Google Maps on your phone is in most cases dead on. Someone got a Kindle that they did not pay for. Regardless of the shipping issue, Amazon is always really good about remediating stuff. Waiting 24 hours was not a huge deal and they had no issue sending out another one. Now lets see if this one actually makes it.

I wonder how long it will be...

Before the convenience of Amazon is out-weighed by the poor customer service in shipping???

Folks do have limits they will tolerate... :)
Maybe the percentages are working for them. Not enough people have a bad experience, and they always have more folks joining in.

Don't see them going anywhere any time soon.

Having said that, my retirement account has benefited from their growth. Planning to back down on my Amazon holdings pretty soon ...

This is both funny and annoying. I've got a delivery via Amazon shipping that was supposed to arrive by 9PM. I had their tracking map open on my computer so I'll know when they are getting close. The green dot for the driver was getting close (4 stops away) until all of a sudden he hops on 85 and goes to somewhere near Lawrenceville. I'm guessing the driver called it a night and just went home. Amazon website still says "still arriving today".

ETA: Oh yeah, I had another package that was supposed to be delivered today. Didn't happen.

And while I'm complaining....I had another package that was supposed to be delivered by FedEx today. It requires a signature so I paid for the option to have it delivered between 5-8PM so I knew I'd be at home. It has been sitting at the Norcross FedEx facility since around 6AM this morning. Now it shows delivery for Monday.

I am experiencing the opposite...

UPS seems to be the most reliable... at least getting packages to the UPS store where I have PO Boxes...
Maybe this is because the truck that goes there... mostly does business deliveries in the area... and about 1/2 to 1/3 of the truckload is left at the UPS store... :)

Anyhow... when something was shipped USPS a week or so ago... it was 3-4 days late...
And do not even get me started on how wonderful (NOT) their tracking system works.

IMO this trend from Amazon, of using independent contractors running around in their own vehicles... delivering packages...
(Seems to me to be a variation of the Uber/Lyft model)...
May well backfire on them.

As noted in a post a while back...
IMO there are limits to how much un-reliability folks will tolerate... just for the convenience of online shopping and delivery to your door.

And with Walmart doing the thing where you can buy it online and pick it up at the store...
Amazon is gonna get a chunk of their market taken away from them.
Question is... what size chunk...
Personal opinion... small but significant chunk!

Yea, 1 or 2 day delivery is great... if it happens. Paying extra for my package to get delivered to the wrong address or 2 days late will not make me happy.

Amazon guy actually got out of his truck, walked up to the door, rang the bell, and handed me my package today. I can't remember the last time a delivery driver did that. I thanked him and told him how impressive that was.
Same here. They started out rough, but have been doing a pretty decent job here. I like that they get a picture of where they left the package.

Amazon has made no bones that they are coming after UPS. Me thinks UPS better up their game.

What is unique about their approach is that all of these delivery people are contractors. Amazon is setting them up in business. I would like to see the contract they sign though, I'm sure it somehow sets them up as exclusive. UPS stock is trading below both it's 2 year and 5 year averages.

LOL...this package got delivered a few minutes ago. The guy said he needed to pull the barcode label off the box so he could scan it after 5PM since I had requested 5-8PM delivery (ignoring that I paid extra for that timeframe for YESTERDAY). Oh well...at least I got it before Monday.
