Accident at courthouse

Rolling down the highway
Looks like an elderly person ran up on the sidewalk at the courthouse and some people have been injured. I don't have many details.

My husband just called, he came by there and said there were multiple firetrucks, ambulances and police at the courthouse.

I heard about this a while ago. Apparently, it was an elderly person that pressed the gas pedal by mistake. :( :pray

Trying to locate my cousin's husband and make sure he's okay. He's been working security at that courthouse.

Oh, wow! We heard all the sirens as FR headed to Poole. That's when I checked the scanner to find out what was going on. I had to leave the office, and my husband called to see if I knew if the fire had gotten worse, because he headed to an appointment and passed six or seven police, fire trucks, and ambulances.

I hate to hear this! Madea, let us know about your cousin's husband!

It's appears to be all citizens that were injured. Including 2 infants. :( My cousin's husband is fine. A friend of mine's office window is busted. :cantbelievemyeyes

Wow, that's scary too. I hope everyone is ok.

That reminds me of my grandmother telling me she got her first job at a drugstore years ago. On the first day at work she accidentally drove her car through the front of the drugstore. It was her first day of work and her last day at work, ever, all on the same day. Plus she never drove a car again.

They hit what they think is the brake, but is the gas.
The faster the car goes, the harder they press on the "brake", thus compounding the problem.

I saw a little old lady go thru the front of a c-store once.
She was 3/4 of the way in the store just smoking the tires, this was when cars were rear wheel drive, all the time thinking she was standing on the break.

I was also sitting next the wall at the Hickory Hut when another little old lady did the same thing right where I was sitting.
Thank goodness it was a block wall, so all she did was shove the blocks in at me.

We had a similar incident happen several weeks ago. An elderly woman, driving a pickup, mistakenly hit the gas pedal. Drove the the front of a c-store, with her grandson in the bed of the truck. Very scary. Her license was taken that day.

We have a dear friend in her 80's who went through the front of her beauty shop and injured two. She was devastated. This is such a sad situation. It's hard to know when to take the keys away and it is such a hard realization for the elderly that they are no longer capable of driving safely. It is such a shame that this courthouse accident resulted in injury and death.

I heard on the radio that the fatality was the father of the twin babies, but I have no verification.

I heard it was a woman that was the fatality. :dunno
So much for accurate reporting.
It is very difficult to have to make the decision to take the car keys. I have seen many friends struggle with this. :(

Just a few years ago we had to take away mom's keys. Not just for unsafe driving but also in case she had a medical issue. It was tough to do but we were all glad we did, especially when afterwards she told us how nice her drives have been and about all the places she had driven to (she just thought she had driven to them). It was the right decision.

Yep. Daddy had already voluntarily given up driving after a minor accident when the dementia hit, but after his brain bleed when the dementia was really strong and before they figured out how to fix the bleed, he was gonna drive to McD's for breakfast and I ran ahead of him and sat in the driver's seat and wouldn't move. OH, he was mad. Bless his heart.

I have driven north in the southbound lane of I-75 (back when there was little traffic at 3am on a Sunday morning).
I have rode with people that couldn't walk straight.
But the scariest ride I ever took was with my grandfather, right before they took his keys away.
It literally like riding with Mr Magoo.
