Not to drag this up again but....

I voted early today and she asked what I voted on the charter schools amendment...then proceeded to absolutely flip her lid. "You're taking money away from teachers! You're taking money away from your stepsons! You're taking money away from the bus drivers!" :wut

Really tick her off and tell whoever you're talking about that I voted for it too...

::ditto

This has been circulating on and off for the last month with teachers and PTA members. It just started back up with force today.

So how did you get this copy? It would be nice if they would get the facts straight.

I have been heavily involved in PTA for over 10 years and most of my best friends are teachers in this system. Why?

At least one of those handwritten points is wrong.

I think many can be explained. But I have not seen explaining, just this circulating. I do not believe that this is going to pass.

In particular I'm referring to the one that says that the state can already set up charters ... the courts said no, not if the locality says no.

I understand that :thumbsup and I am voting yes, as I believe many here are, but the only chatter I have heard from people involved in the school system is no and they don't want to hear anything. :dunno Because of that is why I said it probably won't pass. They are a big group come elections.

So many of them have really been scared by the unions on this one. They are 100% convinced that if it passes they will lose their jobs.

Why don't they want to hear anything about this? Have they made up their minds after researching the subject, or are they just repeating/believing what they've been told?

As long as public funds are not used to circulate it. AG Sam Olens has already given John Barge his opinion on that. It is against the law.

I have no knowledge of it being circulated with public funds. All I have seen are emails (personal) Facebook and texts.

I really do not know. When I have tried to ask I usually get shut down with "no politics." :) Many of us sit on different sides of that arena and have found it best, for our friendships, not to discuss it. While I agree with that on a whole, I found this different, them, not so much. :dunno

Gotcha. I have a few friends that I do not go near certain subjects with. Otherwise a friendship could easily be lost.

Have had that to happen more times than I like to think about. If you play in the political sandbox it happens. :(

Yesterday it was "hinted" that my pay should be docked for supporting the Charter School Amendment. Really? You sure you wanna do that? :whistle

Then today, at lunch, she was looking at a TV on the wall of the restaurant we were at when she saw a sign on the screen opposing the Amendment. She hollered for me to turn around and look and said "See! You should vote NO to that!". I said, "Sorry, signs don't affect my decision to vote. Information does."

Oy vey...when will this stop??? :BH

Yeah, that second thing you said.

I'm sure the chuckle that was included in the comment meant that it was a joke. Thing is, I know she's seriously upset that I voted for it. I just asked her to tell me what day would be docked so I'd know what day to not show up for work...and then chuckled back at her.
