Social Justice Warriors take down another of their own.
Scarlett Johansson was criticized for her decision to play a transgender man in a soon to be made film called “Rub and Tug".
Apparently it is outrageous that actors can pretend to be people they are not.
Trace Lysette, a transgender actress who plays a transgender character on the Amazon series “Transparent,” was offended that Johansson was taking work from LGTBQ actors. She complained on Twitter that “not only do you play us and steal our narrative and our opportunity but you pat yourselves on the back with trophies and accolades for mimicking what we have lived . . . so twisted. I’m so done.”
Another article I read said that in the past simply calling attention to the existence of the transgendered was deemed a victory for the LGTBQ cause. In 1999, Hillary Swank received praise — and an Oscar — for playing a transgender woman in “Boys Don’t Cry”. No one complained about stolen narratives then.
I think most movie studio try to get the largest movie star they can for each role. For instance Johansson over an unknown transgender actor?
