Tyre Nichols case: 5 former Memphis police officers charged with second-degree murder

Until our population starts to respect laws and our law enforcement this will continue. And until our law enforcement is supported to put these people directly in jail and have the courts put them in prison for resisting arrest... no matter what else they did, it is going to get worse.

Our leaders are not prosecuting those who do not follow laws. Our open borders let the worst of the worst in our country. Our lack of police enforcement means thieves have a hay day, druggies use drugs then steal more to buy more drugs... ultimately whether they steal from a business or an individual our nation is lost.

As long as citizens can run away, and the police are afraid to pursue them, because the police will be prosecuted for doing their job... we will not see law and order again.

The ship has sunk.

In my city, I have been told over 5 times by the police officer that they have been told by our city mayor that they are just to keep the peace, they can't arrest those breaking the laws. Therefor the population of really bad people is swarming to our city because you can steal and use drugs and do what ever you want without fear of going to jail or prison.

Why work when you can steal bikes, catalytic converters, break into peoples cars and homes.

There are rings of thieves who are hitting the high end homes now. They are from South American countries, mostly Chileans foreign nationals with a few Colombians

The thieves know the police have their hands tied that they will never be caught...and no one has a gun to shoot them... no homeowner is going to be able to protect themselves.

There is another ring stealing from old and Asian people. Several old people where my mom lives had their jewelry and wallets stolen as someone asked them for help or directions. Disgusting.

Wow, first I've heard of it. I haven't had time to read or watch anything so I will not opine. I will say this, if LE is attempting to detain you then it's in your best interest to oblige them. On the other hand I will also say this, there is a small percentage of LE who probably shouldn't be officers but that's normal for any field of work. Bottom line, don't be a "bad guy" and avoid even having to be confronted or questioned by LE....problem solved. You're welcome.

I just watched two different videos of this arrest. While I do not condone police brutality nor do I think reckless driving or resisting should warrant the death penalty the elephant in the room is the suspect did not comply with commands from the very get go until the end. The vast majority of these incidents stem from a suspect refusing to comply with direct orders from LEO. All the media hype (which has been non-stop since yesterday) fuels the fires and empowers those who do not respect LEO to not comply compounding the problem. if these officers had of been white, Asian or Hispanic every major U.S. city would be in flames. Call me anything you want to but I stick by my perspective it is based on real world and past events.

I finally got time to watch the video. I always try to be slow to judge these things; partly because we often don't know the whole story, and also because I have so little faith in the media who usually alerts us to stuff like this.

As a general rule, I am pro cop. Yeah, they have some bad eggs, same as any profession does. But I believe most of them mean well. Most of my experiences with the police has been positive, with just a couple of instances that were not, but neither of those were horrible either. Just a couple of cops having a bad day or sharing a little attitude. I was able to handle both situations calmly and rationally, and ultimately both officers chilled out and did the right thing. I didn't yell at them or become violent, I just calmly explained my situation and gave them a chance to cool their jets.`

I also try to be mindful that cops probably work under pressures and dangers that most of us cannot relate to. I would imagine that an officer who had just been in a dangerous situation caused by some snot who won't cooperate would be angry and his adrenaline will be pumping. The officers in this video were likely in that situation; they were understandably angry and it probably didn't take much to push them over the edge.

I could totally see hitting or kicking the guy, even using an ASP if the bad guy is unrestrained and fighting you, especially if it's just one or two cops. They have the right to defend themselves, same as any of us.

But with four or more cops there and the turd restrained, I cannot justify what they did. They punched him, kicked him, looks like they even kicked him in the nuts at least once, and it looked like one cop hit him in the head or face with what looked to be an ASP. And that could have been what killed him.

So yeah, from what I see in this video, it appears that a huge amount of excessive force was used. I think these cops are in lots of trouble.

I'm glad it wasn't white cops that did it; it would have been labeled a race thing whether it was of not. And we sure don't need anymore racial tensions right now.

Sadly, this will play right into the hands of the anti-cop crowd, and that is not a good thing. We cannot just do away with cops, period. Do we need to take a look at training methods and have higher standards in law enforcement? Possibly. But doing away with the cops is simply not an option.

Well, that was horrible.

Did not watch the whole thing. Very disturbing.

I don't have a clue why he ran to begin with, or what was happening other than there was a lot of violence and rage at Tyre. If from the beginning Tyre just did what they asked, would they have beat him up? Or was it the wild chase that caused them to use excessive/deadly force?

One of the body cam starts where they are trying to detain him and he runs and they are spraying him with mace... I still don't know why he ran or what was happening. The police are all out of breath, pissed off, and amped up from chasing him.

It seemed to escalate how pissed off they were. Did they know him?

The guy was a punching and kicking bag being held on the ground once they got ahold of him the second time. The footage from the pole was awful starting around the 2 minute mark. Once they had him on the ground, there was no reason to kick and punch and work the guy over.

I am glad I don't have to figure out what happened... what a cluster. I think I would rather someone shoot me dead than be beat and kicked in the head like that.
