Trump announces that houses of worship are ‘essential,’ calls on governors to open them up

I agree with him.

Having said...churches, use some sense about this and don't be stupid. Most churches have lots of sick and elderly, and a choir is a perfect storm for spreading the 'Rona. Our church is scheduled to reopen in June, but we'll have multiple smaller services, no choir yet, no children's groups or childcare at first. We're looking out for our older and medically fragile folks.

Got an email today, we are opening small groups first, with social distancing in the meeting rooms (using only the large ones). June 28th is the target for church being able to meet, two of our pastors will have that as their last day before they move to their new churches so people want to say goodbye. I imagine we'll end up having six - eight services. Hopefully they set up several of them for 60 YO and older only.

Got no real issue with this at all as long as people use common sense. Although it was completely innocent they took several bodies out the back door at Cartersville Medical Center due to two church services. Not fake news I saw a few of them first hand. As far as listing churches as essential it is a straight up political move aimed at a very important piece of his constituency (sp). If you want to worship in this environment more power to you and you absolutely have the right to.

Some folks just get down right nuts with their "God will protect me" stuff, particularly in a house of worship. I think this was the biggest fear. Most church leaders are being cautious, bit you know that some of the more evangelical groups will pack them in, no masks, and lots of hand holding and hugs. Sadly many of these groups are already experiencing higher than average exposure and infection rates.

I get it though. But given that Trump couldn't close them in the first place, he certainly can't open them. In the end they are all going to do what they are going to do.

I have a friend who served with me in Afghanistan who is now a Baptist minister. He has a small church where most of the congregation are seniors. He had his deacons have decided it best to continue keeping the church closed for services in order to protect those seniors. Since the shutdown, he has been giving his sermons using conference calling on the phone. Most of the seniors in his congregation are not computer literate, so using Facetime, Zoom or other computer software technology was out of the question.

He should do drive in church. The FM transmitters they use are inexpensive and work pretty well/

The problem is finding a good one right now, I'm told that all the good brands are pretty much sold out as everyone has the idea.

One guy who is a ham put one of the cheap ones up and tested it with his spectrum analyzer, it was sending noise from way below the FM band to way over it.
