The Widow of Larkspur- Lawana Blackwell

Pursuit Driver
I picked this book up from www.christianbook.com, for about 5.00. I'm about halfway thru it, and am really enjoying this book.

Synopsis- A recently widowed woman has to pick up her family and move, after she discovers her deceased husband bankrupted them with gambling debts.

It's a good story of a woman, learning to lean on God for the first time in her life, and making her own way. :love

I don't like most Christian friction. Most of it is pure horribly-written crap. I like about half historical fiction...not interested in the other half.

Picky, ain't I?

Ok :))
I'm not sure how to respond, except to say I'm sorry. :dunno

Freudian slip? :))

(And I agree.)

hahahaa Grammar nazi busted! :D :D :D

IF, you mentioned Terri Blackstock in another thread - I've read some of her stuff, and she's a good writer. But then I read that thing (Last Light?...hard to remember) she wrote about life after the EMP, and I was just so irritated at her. She did a good job of showing what things would be like in everyday life. However, what really hacked me off was that the family was all concerned about THEMSELVES. The mother with the baby next door and the dying older lady across the street they just left to fend for themselves. Did not like that at all. Haven't read anything newer of hers to know if it's any good or not.

I get most of my stuff free from Kindle...I only surf the Top 100 Free books. So if I pay for it, it's unusual. Although I will say I paid for both Nightmare Merchant books, thankyouverymuch,gc. ;)

Oh, and just for good measure, I like to read non-fiction books about just about anything. So you can dump on my selection all you want. ;)

Oh, shut up. I like some of it. Just not all of it. I might even like this one. :D
It's a sweet story. I like the characters, so far. I see a little shift in the storyline coming up soon, so I'll let ya know later. :)

By the by - Mother is a genius and a voracious reader, and she likes the kind of books you do. So there's that. ;)

I'm enjoying this book, but thank you for dumping on my reading selection.

:spitchick Funny..I am with ML though, most Christian fiction I do not like. (I say most because after reading so many I did not like, I stopped reading that genre.)

I do hope you enjoy it though and still come back and post about the book.

It's set in England, mid 1800's. :)

Yeah, see - Christian fiction, historical fiction...two strikes. :D

I will say that there are very well-written books in each genre I like...what hinders me with the historical fiction is that I'm so not a history buff. But inasmuch as both parents and several close friends are history buffs, it's kinda wearin' off on me.

A FAVORITE historical fiction book of mine:

Celia Garth - set in the Revolutionary War

I'll have to look it up. I've got a number of books in my library, just awaitin' on me.

I think I finished the book. :dunno

There seem to be no more pages, per the app, but I'll check that when I'm on a computer. If it's the end, then it left me hanging...and that's a disappointment. :(
