Stephen King...

I know that some do not consider Stephen King to be high art... but the man has a definite gift for pop culture storytelling with a magnificent supernatural twist.

I do not read a whole lot of fiction, but when I do he is usually good for an interesting yarn.

I have been reading his books since I was 10 years old... but if you think you know his work
from the old horror classics, then you would be wrong and I invite you to take a second look.

A couple of years ago I started back after a long hiatus with Cell & Doctor Sleep.

Then I read Lisey's Story and 11/22/63. (IMHO these are the best work of his career...) Excellent brilliant grounded vivid storytelling.

Right now I am halfway thru my "Revival" Christmas gift and I am savoring every chapter... it reminds me a lot of the imagery in Stand By Me.

With a supernatural twist... 8)

His work is excellent and I always love his books. :thumbsup

Which ones would be your favorites ? ? ?

Oh m gee...that is hard...I would say classic King is my favorite. IT, The Stand, The Tommyknockers, The Shining, Misery, all of them.

I have read all of his books and at times I have gone back to reread them because it has been so long. I would not let son watch some of the movies or tv miniseries until he read the books, because I wanted him to see how King really brings you into his books and what he has you see verses it just being on the tv. He has also read some of his on his own.

I know many believe 11/22/63 is his best, but I am not in that camp. It is good, not saying it is not at all, but just to me it is not the best, though I really can not pick just one as the one I love the most or think is his best piece of work. :)

Yes. Let me know when you are done, we will post spoilers for others. :)) Really, my gf's did not want to read it so I have not had a chance to hit highlights with anyone.

I am ashamed to admit, as an avid reader, I have never read any Stephen King.

However, your enthusiasm has peaked my interest. And, his endorsement of Gillian Flynn, and that folks say she is the modern female version of King.

It sounds silly, but when I was a kid I saw Cujo, and later Misery. Those two movies are so damn creepy that they frightened me from King. If that even makes sense. Lol

I haven't read a new Stephen King book in 20 yrs.
That being said, I read every book he wrote up until then.
He is one of the best at what he does. (ok, he is a little wordy at times)
I think The Stand is one of the best books written.
Perhaps it is time to see what he has done over the past two decades.

I liked "The Stand". I haven't read much King, but I recently read " The Colorado Kid" because one of my favorite shows, "Haven", is based on it. After reading it I realized that it is very loosely based on it.

King is a fantastic writer, no doubt about it. He wrote one of only two books I had to put down because they scared me to death - Pet Sematary. I think I made it maybe 2/3 of the way through, and I just had to walk away. (Silence of the Lambs was the other.) I really love his writing style...a true gift. Anyhoo, haven't read anything since Pet S.; don't know if I'll check out any of his new ones or not. I'll look over the synopsis on Amazon and see what I think.

I loooooved Silence of the Lambs. I remember reading Thinner, which I think was one of his books. Also, Needful Things.
