So what\'s the word?

I've been doing a lot of editing off and on over the last week. It's very much like reviewing reports; replacing good words with better words, shortening sentences, removing extraneous words and phrases, etc.

But there is one word that I have deleted more than any other. It's true for just about everyone, whether you are writing a report, personal letter or a book. I tried not to use it as I went along, but I bet I've deleted several hundred of them in this first edit so far.

What do you think the word is? Don't cheat :Stick

Is it "that"?

:thumbsup

Very good ;D

SD, In this day and age, I wouldn't be surprised if "like" was a close second.

I was brought in last year at the high school to help with some of the kids to prepare for the writing test. (After they failed the first time) Good grief, everything was "like this" and "like that" and "you know?" In their papers!!!!!

I try to remind our people that you can't write like you talk.

Well, I guess you can at the risk of sounding like a total idiot when your words are read aloud in open court. :Ninja
