Silver Comet Trail

Does anyone know for sure what they are doing to it???

The day we left for CA, they started taking down some trees across the street from my house. I asked one of the workers what was going on and he said something about either widening or moving the trail. Well, when we got home, I saw that it wasn't just a few trees, but a ton of them that were gone. I also noticed that the street about 300 feet from my driveway, Weddington Rd in Hiram, (I now know this because there is a bright orange sign across from my house saying it) is going to be closed through November 19th.

Well today they have been working with really loud machinery (not good while I am trying to work, since I do customer service from home) and now they are taking out even more trees!

That ain't logical, dude. How would the tunnels affect trees? OH, wait - maybe the ROOTS of the trees went down too far, so instead of cutting through the roots and the trees dying later, they just cut the trees. OK, semi-logical. ;)

PS - where'd you get the photo on your book cover? It's great.

PPS - Mama Hog, I'm sorry we slackers have hijacked your serious thread. I read something about the trail awhile back, but I don't remember what it was. Sorry. :embarrassed:

Thanks. It's just a banner I threw together last night. But come to think of it, something similar would probably do well for the cover. ;D

Doesn't bother me! :)

And in case anyone cares, I finally found out what is going on. Paulding DOT told me that they tore down the trees to put in a temporary trail because they didn't want to close the trail for construction. They are going to be building a retaining wall to support the trail where the landslide happened after the floods in 2009. The guy I spoke to said that after they are done, the City of hiram has asked them to keep the temporary trail there for future use. He said that they would be replacing some of the trees with maple trees, but if they keep that temporary trail there, I guess I won't get to enjoy having a view of nothing, but trees from my front porch again.

Once they put up the retaining wall, they shouldn't have any problem with that section of the trail in the future. It would be crazy to keep the temporary trail open for "just in case." DOT should just go ahead and replant the trees once the retaining wall is completed.

The DOT guy said that the City of Hiram said something about keeping it for a possible sidewalk system in the future. I don't get it though because I don't see the point for sidewalks on my street, especially where that temporary trail is.
