Seafood Joint in Hiram

Serenity, through modern chemistry
My wife and I had lunch at Wild Crab Seafood and Bar. This place is crazy wonderful if you enjoy Cajun cuisine, which I do. The restaurant was very neat and clean, the staff was very friendly and attentive. At this point I must tell you that this is not a seafood bar, it is a seafood restaurant with a bar, or it will have when they get their liquor license, and most all dishes have that spicy Cajun flair.

We started with the fried pickles as an appetizer. The order came quickly and was what I would describe as being medium large as compared with other eateries in the area. My wife ordered the shrimp Po-boy with fries, and I ordered the half order of Snow Crab (1/2 lb). This comes with about 1/3 ear of corn and a medium to small potato cooked with the crab. The full order gets 1 lb of crab, 2 pieces of corn and 2 potatoes. When ordering the the seafood of your choice, you then choose which sauce you want, and the spiciness of the sauce. The length of time before our order arrived was just long enough to let me know the food is being freshly prepared.

When the food arrived we found everything to be as we ordered. My wife's Po-boy had plenty of properly cooked fresh shrimp on very fresh french bread with a nice remoulade sauce. My crab order arrived in a plastic baker bag with much extra sauce in the bottom. I must say that Cajun crab is wonderful, and eating it reminded me of a Crawfish boil. Provided for our dining pleasure was a shell bucket containing 2 bibs and 2 pairs of plastic gloves. You may not need the bib, but you will need the gloves! Very messy and wonderful. Temperatures and flavors of both dishes were excellent. The portion of crab was just the right amount for me but keep in mind I'm 72, and a medium baked potato fills me up. It should do well for seniors or those counting calories.

Costs - The Po-boy was $9 and the 1/2 order of crab was $13. Fried pickles were $9, a Crab Cake to go was $12 and drinks $2.50 each. We got out of there for $48 plus tip. Some would find this high, but drop the crab cake and appetizer, and we're down to $27 plus tax and tip,,, which I don't consider all that much. Those with hardier appetites will not fair as well.

The beauty of this restaurant is its uniqueness. Cajun seafood properly cooked can not be found elsewhere in Paulding County that I know of, and it's a wonderful respite from all of the Mexican and BarBQ places around. I'll give it 4 and 1/2 stars for now, and when they get their liquor license I'll throw in the other half.

Check this place out, it's worth the money!!!

Compared to Gumbeau's?

Compared to Gumbeau's?

Gumbeaux's menu is much larger but doesn't have the various crab or lobster that I remember, but they do have a better fish selection than Wild Crab. The 'Boiled in' bag at Wild Crab I think is better than Gumbeaux's fried or boiled, while I'd rate their Po-boys about the same. Gumbeaux's Seafood Chowder is to die for, but Wild Crab is much closer with better parking.

Thanks, we've been wondering about it. Wife and I both love seafood, but she has to go easy with the spices, so not sure she'll go for it.

Now I’m hungry. It sounds like Juicy Crab in Kennesaw which we enjoyed very much recently. After choir practice I went to the Chinese buffet next to Happy Hog. Needless to say I pigged out on kimchi, sushi, octopus, and shrimp along with other dishes. I don’t see how they can make a profit at $11.79 per person.
