There are major battles brewing between parents, teachers, and local governments.

Parents are sick and tired of schools being closed, but it seems many of the teachers are refusing to go back, even if the government wants them to.

As an "essential" worker who was out there the whole time, I find it hard to have sympathy for the teachers. What makes them more special than those of us who have been working straight through?

I tend to agree with you on this one. I respect teachers and know it is a job I could not possible do for a myriad of reasons. However their whining is getting a little annoying. Between the refusal to report to work and their selfishness wanting priority status for the vaccine they seem a little whiny and self centered. I am sorry to tell them but unless they meet the over 65 criteria they should have to wait like everyone else. I am sure their unions will try power plays threatening the powers that be over election influence. Like you GD my guys are considered "essential' and they have not missed a beat during the whole pandemic. A lot of our work is in the health care field and they have absolutely been in buildings where there are documented cases. Suck it up buttercups and get to work.

Many of these teachers have students who are currently working in retail and fast food while this pandemic exist. It's no wonder teacher unions and most teachers in the country vote for Democrats; they're lazy and feel they're entitled because they "teach" our young. I think many go into teaching because they don't want a job where they have to work hard. "I don't feel like standing in front of classes and teaching all day. I think I'll have each class read chapter three while I work on my crossword puzzle."

It is a power play by the unions.

Private schools are open, as are some public schools My roommate works for a private school, and next month starts a new job with a public school. Both schools are doing on campus learning.
