I say sales are down because gas prices are so high. Gas is twice as much as it was on the day Biden took office causing a downturn in consumer purchases. Instead of paying $30 each week to fill up their gas tank to get to and from work, it's costing them $60. That's an increase of $120 a month, reducing their expendable income. If the big box stores have seen a huge drop in their sales and their warehouses are filled to capacity, you would think we would see them reducing their prices. Inventory will not make them any money while it's sitting in a warehouse.

Gas and Interest rates. Everyone with an adjustable rate mortgage or card is hurting each time the Fed raises the rate.

Consumer confidence also has a lot to do with it. People don't buy optional items nearly as much when they are unsure if they will be able to pay for it later or need the cash for food, etc. That old TV or the clothes I have now will work for now.

They can lower prices to make some of it sell, but the stores are having to pay these higher wages that are being demanded to get people to work due to the government giveaways. Gotta have income to cover those costs. Hard to do when you are not making money on your sales.

Going to be tough.

This is beginning to get the same results as the Carter administration.
