Rep. Peter King, R-NY, will not seek reelection in 2020

14 terms is plenty. I know little about him, except that he said he will vote against Trump's impeachment... so that is good.

Maybe with the million plus he has in campaign funds he can help another like minded business person run for New York’s 2nd congressional district.

It would be nice if Career Politicians would all retire.
 
He just wants to get to get signed up for the pension for life and get paid for not working.

Lets face it, why wouldn't ANYONE not quit after the first term unless they were in it for the power.
 
So, not knowing much about him, I did not understand the statement "My daughter’s recent move to North Carolina certainly accelerated my thinking."

This is where I have problems... his daughter was apparently going to "take his place" as if the same 50 families get to run our country like a monarchy.

His daughter, former Hempstead Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney, resigned from office earlier this year and was replaced by another Republican in last week’s election.

Perhaps he was thinking that since she was moving to NC, he might want to retire and move to be near her and the grandchildren.

I heard something on the radio that he was hanging on until his daughter was in a position to run for his seat. With her husband taking a job in NC that changed the whole need for Peter King to run again. Maybe it was totally an incorrect observance. I do not follow North East politics much.

A comment:
Just like all the other Long Islanders she's moving to a low tax state. If a congressman's daughter is leaving it really means Long Island is finished. This is similar to 50 years ago when people left NYC for a better lifestyle. WHAT A SHAME! Thankyou Democrat party, thank you liberals!

His seat, there is speculation, will turn blue, which will guarantee higher taxes.
