How does this happen? Incompetent workers?
It felt like I was the only person who worked between December 18th and January 8th. Every single email I sent out or phone call I made to venders or our internal organization had a voice message that they were so sorry they could not help me as they would be back in the office January 8th.

In my own organization, there were a handful who took off almost 30 days vacation. Great when you have worked 10 years and earned it, but what a douch move to take 4 weeks all together and not spread it out through the year. Our doors are open 365/24 hours.

I had two direct reports who were out 30 days, and 3 more who took 14 days over the past 2 months. It left me working double shifts to cover. The 2 who were out 30 days just returned yesterday.

I can see how you get behind. I am behind from covering the front line needs of the organization and putting other reports on the back burner.

Precedent has been set in our organization that up to 30 days is allowed, so it is not something that can be denied. If they go over 30 days they must resign, then they can be hired back if they leave in good standing. This was because we have many who are from other countries. To travel back to their country they were allowed 30 days. I have 2 who will leave for the month of February to the Philippines. A third who husband died in the Philippines at the end of December just got back from wrapping up family matters there. That was on top of the others on vacation.

Truly it seems worse since Covid. So many got to be off for months at a time and realized that was pretty great.

I gotta find a new gig.
