Yup, T Boone Pickins. He tried to rationalize putting up a $2mil fan that would produce $40k worth of electricity per year. Simple math tells you the payoff is 50 years before any ROI,,, and that doesn't count annual maintenance and insurance, (in case it self destructs or gets hit by a tornado). The life expectancy of the new fans is 30 years and costs $3mil,,, the problem for all of you math gurus is, how much more do you have to sell the electricity for, just to break even???

That was him! I knew the numbers didn't work even as he was pitching it on TV.
 
Wind has never been an economical solution for mass production, and distributed production will run into NIMBY. No "alternative" energy s4ource other than geothermal and nuclear is suitable for baseload. It's really hard to get over the fact that the wind doesn't always blow and the sun does not always shine.
